Hi.. can anyone tell me if there is a way to delete a downloaded firmware file from the 3cx repository (not sure where it is.. Google Cloud hosting)? I have 80+ phones that received a defective firmware update and when I manually downgrade the firmware and set the phone to not check for firmware updates.. within 24 hours the phone has downloaded the defective firmware and installed it. I'm not sure if the firmware update is coming through 3cx or direct from the manufacture, but my guess is that since I instructed 3cx to install the firmware updates that it is still re-installing itself from within the 3cx system. (right or wrong?) - Thank you for any help.. spending many hours trying to get ahead of this. Our phones are Grandstream GX1760W and we are connecting via Wifi.

Simply go to /var/lib/3cxpbx/Instance1/Data/Http/Interface/provisioning/{random ID}/firmware/grandstream and delete the firmware file.

Under /var/lib/3cxpbx/Instance1/Data/Http/Interface/provisioning/{random ID} you will also see a "firmware_new" folder. This one is used to temporarily download the firmware to the PBX without triggering the update. When clicking the "+ Firmware" in 3CX, it copies the file to the "firmware/{vendor}" folder, which is the one the phones read from.

By the way, the reason why the firmware settings went back to the defaults is because the 3CX template is set to provision every 24h and it includes the firmware upgrade settings. To prevent it from doing it again, you need to also disable automatic provision on the phone (which I do not recommend).

Also, there is currently a beta firmware I believe for the GXP17xx series and it might be more stable. I know the recent update had serious issues.

Note: on Windows, replace /var/lib/3cxpbx by C:\ProgramData\3CX.

Thank you VERY Much!! I will be looking into this and have been battling this "Defective" Firmware update for GXP1760W (1.0.1.98) that has been horrendous to say the least.

When you enter the new license in the instance or a new instance, the license will be upgraded automatically.

One Last thing.. I'm quite new at the Google Cloud Platform and I've looked at "many" articles on just how to access your files, but I cannot figure it out. Is there an article that gives step by step information on this? It seems that my 3cx install is located on a persistent disk and I cannot seem to view the files to manage them in any way. Thanks again.

You need SSH access to use an SFTP client like FileZilla. You'll be able to access it this way.

Google Cloud uses SSH keys if I remember correctly but FileZilla supports these without issues.

Ok.. I have successfully connected to the instance in Google Cloud.. however when I try to delete the file it says Permission Denied. Can you help me past this hurdle? Is it because I haven't stopped the 3cx services? Thanks again. - Bill

Hi Bill

I would use WinSCP to connect to your PBX (might need port 22 open) and click advanced and changing the following. Assume you know your root login details?

Note that we serve version 1.0.1.98 to those models, so if your phone ended up having anything other than that, then I would think it is getting the firmware from some other non-3CX source.

What issues were you facing with v1.0.1.98 if so?

Thanks for Everyone help.. mainly JohnS_3CX - I was able to successfully downgrade the firmware to the previous (non beta version v1.0.1.89) and our phone are now stabilized. In our environment we need to use wireless as cabling would be quite costly, but I will test my findings to see if the affect a wired phone as well (of the same model). Previously the phones had been very stable for 3 - 4 months since installation over Wifi. Our phones immediately became VERY unstable (Dropping of Wifi, Freezing, Erratic Behavior) with the newest firmware update and I am Convinced that v1.0.1.98 is Defective. From now on - I TEST before I DEPLOY :) - Wow.. a Novel Idea!. I have LEARNED my lesson :) - Thank you again. - Bill
