Door Striker Activation

I'm looking to upgrade my current PBX to 3CX. My current system is connected to our lobby door striker. A feature button on the phones activates the striker to give access. Does 3cx support this?

Your existing PBX should have an analog device connected to it so that when you call an extension it toggles the voltage.

The 3CX does not have any analog interfaces, its software so you will need a gateway like the EdgeWater 2900A. You can also use the 2900A to connect to your SIP provider. I use it with a Valcom device (not by choice, it what was there) without any issue. You assign an extension and it signals to the EdgeWater and then to the analog FXS or FXO port to release the door.

A little over simplified but it works well. You might as well connect your analog fax machine to it it you have one and move it over to SIP. I have the 2900A doing that as well.

I see we have an Edgewater fan . Depending on the device used to trigger the door striker any of the supported FXO/FXS gateways will do the job. The Snom PA-1 also has programmable output pins and some Cyberdata devices have them as well. You just need to find out what the door system is looking for to activate/unlock.

Many of the older analogue door strikers used DTMF to activate (unlock), so any ATA should work. You have to decide if you want to manually program, or not (use a 3CX supported device). The other thing to consider...what causes the current system to send calls to a destination when someone is at the door. If it is the PBX, then the ATA would have to be programmed to "speed-dial" a number when the line is seized (someone is at the door). Many allow this in an internal dialplan, a feature to keep in mind when choosing an ATA.
