One of my users approached me around out of hours emergency cascades. Essentially, he wants a DID number that he can put in loads of documentation that when called out of hours, will follow a call path. Say we have 3 users in the emergency response team, Jim, Tim, and Bob.

If the DID is called, the system calls Jim and if he doesn't pick up after x rings, we call Tim and if he doesn't pick up after x rings we call Bob.

Ideally, the numbers called would be their mobile numbers and not their 3CX ext. Is this possible?

Thanks in advance,

Yes make a Hunt group with 3 fictive members. Under forwarding rules tick "Also ring my mobile" and add the mobile number under general

Just make sure the the ring period is smaller than the time will go to mobile voicemail. If the call is picked up by the mobile voicemail it will be classified at a connected call and will not overflow to the next number

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, this only seems to work when you have a phone assigned to the extension. For example, I created a test hunt group.

Emergency Ring Group w/ assigned DID, 10 second ring time.

  1. EXT 101 - Yealink T41S - No Mobile Number
  2. EXT 102 - Yealink T41S - No Mobile Number
  3. EXT 103 - Yealink T41S - No Mobile Number
  4. EXT 104 - No provision phone - Mobile Number and simultaneous call checked.

The inbound call gets to the end of step 3 before cutting out.

If I remove step 4 but add the mobile number to EXT 103 and check simultaneous call it works. Is there a way to get this working with no physical phone? We essentially want to set it up on spare extensions, users dont want their everyday extensions simultaneously calling their mobiles. Emergency scenarios only.

Thanks again.

Do your outbound rules allow this extension to make a call?

Check the Activity Log to see why the call terminated.

The outbound rules allow every extension to make outbound calls.

Check the Activity Log to see why the call terminated.

Where might I find the Activity Log in the 3CX web console? I can only see the event log which doesn't provide any information pertaining to this. Using the linux image.

in console dashboard, click on settings (top right) increase to verbose if level is off or too low

Thanks for the pointer. I turned on verbose logging and received the following when the call terminates at step 4. In this case it is EXT140. Redacted my mobile number.

Are others working extensions belongs to DEFAULT GRP ?

normally you need specific rule to be able to forward out on mobile because in that case this is not an extension or a group but a system extension who forward and has no right to do it by default.

watch that start at 5:30

Hi,

Thanks for the response and the video.

The other extensions are a member of the default group and they ring (IP handset) but have not added a mobile number. When I add a mobile number and select simultaneous ring, they ring the mobile and ip phone simultaneously.

With no phone provisioned on the extension (step 4) the mobile doesn't ring when it is listed in the extension and simultaneous ring is selected. Our preferred use case, non user extensions.

I added a new outbound rule with no "from" characteristics (group or extension) and placed it below the default outbound rule so that it would hopefully catch the system extension calls going out. No luck, same thing happened.

system extensions aren't part of any group are they that would get the first rule applied to them?

On your EXT104 which doesn't ring:

  • Set the Status of the extension to Available (important - doublecheck this)
  • Then Go to the extension settings and add the mobile number on the User Information tab
  • Then go to Forwarding Rules, Select Available, and set it like so:
13884

Now press OK to save, and call the extension. You should go directly to the mobile you defined.

If it does not work, you need to double-check your Outbound rules, the system has no route to dial out (system needs separate rule from extensions). The video above covers this. Your logs can tell you whether the correct rule actually matched. This step is important otherwise no call forwards will work to the outside world.

Once you are successful, you can finally test your ring group to see if EXT104 rings when it becomes its turn to ring.

Ok, so apologies. Seems like I had the extension disabled under extension > options > "Disable Extension".

Thanks for everyone for all your help, it's now working.
