If you have 3cx setup to use exchange for voice mail does the email address have to match a user or can it also match a distribution list?

I have a extension number setup which is not for a real person but I do want the extension to have voice mail, so I have set the email address for a exchange distribution group .

Extensions that have a user email address associated with them do have voice mail.

How does the matching of a 3cx extensions to exchange work?

Some good reading

http://searchexchange.techtarget.com/video/0,297151,sid43_gci1333711,00.html

And of course the 3CX documentation

http://www.3cx.com/support/exchange-server-2007.html

Sorry not sure how this answers my question.

I’ve read http://www.3cx.com/support/exchange-server-2007.html I have exchange UM working for real users, my question is about voice mail for an extension going to a email distribution group not a real user.

Hi

In 3CX you can enter any email address. However since you are using Exchange and routing VM to Exchange you will need to set the VM rules on Exchange and route as desired within Exchange.

As soon as 3CX passes the VM call to Exchange then 3CX is out of the VM control.
