Failover with LAN/Linux

The official Failover "documentation" is poor and only really relevant if you want to run two instances in a public cloud.

In order to run an Active/Passive Failover set up on two VMs in a LAN (Azure Virtual Network in my case) it is necessary to set a script to run on failover which updates the local DNS of the active PBX. i.e. pbx.example.local needs to change from PBX1 (10.0.0.1) to PBX2 (10.0.0.2). It is also necessary to force a shutdown of services - but the sample scripts in the official documentation all relate to Windows.

Is there any official 3CX documentation / example on how to do this? And where to check in logs to ensure that the script has run without error?

Given that Failover is only available with a paid-for Pro/Ent license, it should not be this difficult to find reliable documentation.

I think the thought is anyone with the need to run failover already has the knowledge/skillset to knock together a few scripts. But given how long it took to get a supported failover setup from 3CX (which happened right before Linux was an option) it's not entirely surprising there's no Linux documentation. But if you have the environment already, why are you trying to do the 3CX method of failover instead of Azure/HyperV HA? That's always been our recommendation.

I presumed that the 3CX method would offer some benefits over doing it at the VM level.

If it was active-active yes but since it's not, the VM level is better.
