Our fax server has stopped responding to incoming faxes. No errors in log related. Fax has own DID number Incoming call is answered, then silence. Fax is not using T38 service, just plain G711. Incoming rule on the number sends to fax extension which forwards to 888 fax server. Changing directly to fax server results in no change to behavior. Adding new DID number from unrelated SIP has same behavior.
Is the a CLI that I can use to query that the Fax server is running?

This ran fine before but has stopped seemingly out of the blue. any assistance appreciated.

Is the fax service running? Otherwise try restarting the server

Well, I am not sure where the fax service is displayed, hence the question about getting status from the CLI. (Nothing specific under Services on the dashboard.) System has been restarted multiple times with no change to fax status.

Oh that's right.... The fax server service went away and is rolled into the IVR. Any chance someone created an extension conflicting with the fax extension?

No, that hasn't happened.

What does the activity log say? Silence after answer sounds like it's trying to do T38. Is the box to enable G.711 fallback checked?

The call log shows not answered and the activity log shows nothing at for the same time. The box for T38 is unchecked. That's why I wonder regarding a CLI check for these items?

If you tick the Enable G.711 to T.38 fallback and then call the DID or extension, you should hear it answer the call and play the fax tone as a test to see whether its still up and running.

No, iif I do that and try to call the number, it immediately terminates

And if you undo it and call it again you only hear silence after it answers?

@John, Yes, only silence.

I have now restored from a backup a week ago and the fax is now receiving as it should. I'd love to know what the problem was as it appears that settings form the restore are the same as we had.

normally when the call would hit the FAX extension in t38 only the call would drop as your mobile does not speak T.38. As it is connected and there is nothing, the call must have gone somewhere else... Without logs hard to tell...
