I manage the 3CX system for a Trust that operates across 19 schools, all using a single Microsoft 365 tenant. We have a structured approach to 4-digit extensions—each primary school is allocated 200 extensions in number ordered blocks school A is 5200-5399 or school D is 7000-7199 for example, while each secondary school has 1,000 extensions.

Initially, manually uploading users as we onboarded schools was easily manageable. However, keeping the system updated as staff change year by year has become increasingly difficult. Even with the use of AI tools to compare staff lists, this process is time-consuming and could be streamlined with the ability to map azure AD groups to extension ranges.

Currently, the only option available is syncing the entire tenant, but with over 9,000 pupil accounts in our system, we obviously don’t want to allocate extensions to students and we dont want 18 schools getting their incorrect assigned range of extension blocks.

A mapping feature that links Azure groups to specific number blocks would automate this process and eliminate much of the manual work involved in maintaining the system. I dont care if i have to manually delete leavers, just need to sync ones who are active via the groups

This is a feature I believe many users would find beneficial, as others have also requested similar functionality - is it being developed or at least considered as we are looking to expand to 44 schools shortly, and i cannot carry on admin'ing the system like this!

This is a fantastic idea. Possibly map 3CX Departments to Azure Groups, with the ability to set the desired extension range. A bit of work, but certainly possible.
