Recently converted a customer from cable provided analog lines and old digital PBX to VoIP and 3CX. Added Grandstream HT802 to provide the 6 analog lines needed for old analog equipment,.

One extension is a analog phone (Works fine)
One extension is a fax line (Works fine)
4 other extensions are for dial out extensions for Fire Alarm panels located in the building. The previous setup with dial tone originating from the cable box worked. But when the dial tone is moved to the HT802 box, the fire monitoring company claims the data they are receiving is not the same.

I thought analog modem communications was the same as long as you have a dial tone.

Anyone with any ideas? Anyone seen this before?

If these 4 lines are being used to connect to modems, in the fire panel, then you may have some problems. You can try to lower the data speed, in the hopes it will work. maybe 4800, or 9600, but you might have to go even lower if possible. Make sure you are using the same G711 codec all the way through, low-bit rate codecs are definitely not going to work.

Do not use an ATA for the fire alarm. You don't want that responsibility, and if you told your insurance broker what you were doing they would either strangle you or raise your premium. You want to keep them on the POTS line or (and this is my preferred route) have the alarm company switch them to cellular. If you do manage to get the ATA to work and something doesn't work (like now) then the alarm company will charge your customer every time they come out to look at it and tell you it's not them. They do that already with POTS lines. Generally they are happy to have you go cellular because they get a piece of that pie and then if the line doesn't work for whatever reason it's on them to fix at no cost to your customer. Never ever touch alarm lines or elevator lines. It's way to much liability for not enough money.

Thanks for the inputs. It was the Fire Alarm guy that said it would work. Late yesterday, he said he would install Cellular today. So like you say. "Not my problem"

Thanks

Good deal. Best case scenario. Property damage or lives lost because of a 'should work' is not what anyone wants.
