Issue: I am trying to remove a Patton FXO device that is no linger needed. When I try to delete the gateway from the SIP Trunks tab I get an error:
Commit failed on transaction Delete TCX.Configuration.Interop.Wexternalline

Research tells me that this error is due to the gateway using an old template. So I am trying to update the FXO so that I can delete it. However, the Generate Device Config button on the device page is not working - when I press it - nothing happens. The button does change a little so I know it is still clickable, but it does not generate the config I need.

Is there another way around the error when trying to delete?
How can I get the device config button to work if there is not?

Thanks!

Generate device config is exactly that. Takes the settings you put it the screen and runs it through the template to get the config. It doesn't generate a new template, that would make the template not at template. I'd open a ticket with 3CX support and send them the support info package. If you want to try and resolve it yourself you could manually delete the template from the file structure.

It used to be that clicking the generate device config button would create a config file that I would then upload into the FXO. That is what I was expecting to happen. Does it not work that way now?

It does, but you indicated that your research indicated the issue was with an old template. Configs and templates are different things. 3CX takes the template which has variables defined in it, and then takes the information you fill out in the management console, and then generates a config file substituting the values for the variables. Thus generating the config doesn't change the template which is what you indicated you were trying to do. So the only way to get rid of that template is to delete the actual template file from the file system. After a restart of services if you see a prompt to download the template then you will know it's gone and can try deleting the gateway. But realistically as a bronze partner I'd just open a ticket with 3CX describing the issue and supplying the support info package.

Thanks for the advice. I tried deleting the templates and restarting the services but I still cannot generate the device config to upload to the FXO. Opening a ticket with 3CX is waste of time. I have no doubt they have the resources to help, but they always start with the standard request - firewall checker, latest version, and log files. None of those things has anything to do with this issue, and it's not something I can recreate that will show up in a log. I just need to be able to click the Generate Device Config button and have it actually do that so I can update the FXO and then, hopefully, delete it!

So you don't need to generate the config. If it's a template issue, just deleting the template and restarting services should resolve that. If you still can't delete it after that, I don't see what the problem is opening a ticket. The firewall checker should already be passing and you are already up to date. If you generate the support info along with a screenshot of the error message and detail the steps, I'm certain the error info is in the log files.

Hi,

The real issue is that you cannot delete the gateway and get an error when trying. So the button not responding is a secondary matter. It's worth contacting support and reporting this as the issue because not being able to commit the change may indicate other underlying problems that should be investigated.
