Hi All,

I am based in Australia and I can't get the caller ID to work in a Grandstream GXW-4104.

My current set-up:

Optus router provides the phone lines. I took the lines from the router and plugged them into the Grandstream GXW-4104 and register the Grandstream to the on-prem 3CX via Intel NUC.

Outbound calls are working fine. Also, Inbound calls are working after I changed the "Number of rings" from 4 to 2 in the Grandstream device (firmware version 1.4.1.5).

GXW-4104 Unconditional Call Forward is set up to match the Inbound rules in the 3CX but unfortunately, I can't get the caller ID to work.

Any thoughts?

Thank you!

Yes confirm that Optus is providing caller-id. If so, look at the logs in verbose or do a wireshark capture to see what field caller-id is being presented in to 3CX. Grandstream support might be of help as well

Hi mate,

Thanks for the reply. I did a trace from the 3CX, checked all the fields and I wasn't able to see the Caller ID.

3CX can see "000000" as Caller ID. As I mentioned above, I am matching the "000000" in my inbound rules in 3CX.

Thank you!

What you should be checking is the "From: User Part" field, what value did it carry? The 000000 you are seeing is probably in the "To:" field and it can be used to match your Inbound Rules accordingly.

As cobaltit mentioned, I think you should indeed first confirm that Optus is providing the caller-ID so you can at least narrow it down. If you can get your hands on an analogue handset that can present the caller id, you could easily check this by simply disconnecting the Gateway from the line altogether and plug the handset in its place.

Hi Chris,

This is what I've got in the header

From the SIP INVITE message we can definitely see that there's no Caller ID reaching 3CX:

That doesn't necessarily mean that the Provider is not sending it though. Have you by any chance also tried connecting an analogue device to the line as mentioned in my last reply?

I think the next best thing to do would be to check with the provider and confirm if they are sending the Caller ID or not.

It will most likely be one of 3 things..

No caller ID is being sent.
Caller ID type , set on the gateway is incorrect.
Gateway is not waiting long enough to collect caller ID, before passing the call onto 3CX

As far as I'm aware, caller ID type used in Australia, is Bellcore (some providers may use another type). This being the case, it will be sent between the first and second ring. Your setting, of answer after 2 rings should be able to collect it if available.

Hi All,

I have confirmed with an old analogue cordless the carrier is sending the Caller ID through the phone line.

I have submitted a ticket with Grandstream and I'll keep you posted as soon as I will have an answer.

Came across another post, talking about caller ID gateway issues in Australia. In it, they mentioned that the caller Id was being sent between the second and third rings (which I cannot confirm). If this is the case, then you may have to extend the time before the gateway passes on the call to 3CX, but doing so caused other issues. Look at the second to last post. Seemed to require some support from Grandstream.

Here is the thread...
