Hi,
I have followed this reference document to setup a Grandstream HT802 (GW) which is excellent abd very easy to follow (thanks).
Configuring Grandstream HT Series FXS VoIP Gateways

I should say upfront, calls can be placed and received through the GW, so it is working fine.

However, my preference is to have a fixed LAN IP for this device and also wanted to specify the local Time Zone, in my case GM -4:00 (Atlantic). So, before provisioning the GW with the provisioning link XML file, I had set the desired fixed IP ADDR and Time Zone through the GW Webpage. None the less, these settings were replaced after provisioning and the GW was assigned a DHCP ADDR and Time Zone set to Global GMT -12:00.

After noticing the changes, I went ahead and changed the GW configuration again through the GW Webpage: Update, Apply and Reboot the GW.

The changes were applied but within a minute or so the GW rebooted again (automatically) and all went back to the DHCP/Global.

Long story short: Can I not set a fix IP and Timezone in the GW? What is the right way of doing so?

Thanks ahead for any suggestions or comments.

If you don't require the the device update periodically (settings won't be changing), then that can be disabled (Config Server Path?) on the device, changes made manually, and wont be over written.

Hi Leejor,
Thanks for replying. Just want to make sure I understood: you suggest removing the "Configuration Server Path" on the device "Advanced Settings" and then make the desired changes, understanding the device will no longer receive updates from the 3CX PBX.

I can see this would work but is probably not a good option to disconnect communications with the 3CX PBX.

I guess I can live with the dynamic IP ADDR but the "Time Zone" seems to me is a bug as it is an input parameter in the FXS/DECT configuration page and hence should be properly set by the provisioning server in the generated configuration XML file and any subsequent update.

Again, thank for your suggestion.

It really depends on how you use devices. I have quite a number of both ATAs, and PSTN gateways that were set up many years ago. With the exception of making a few updates to the FXS dialplan as needed, I haven't changed any of the other basic programming. The extension number, password, and network settings have all remained exactly the same.
It is all going to depend on your particular circumstances.

Hi @CarlosS

The DHCP setting is included in provisioning, this is why you noticed the above behavior.

The timezone can be set from the 3CX FXS configuration page, just pick the one you want manually from the drop down list:

If you want to use a static IP you can remove the config URL like @leejor and the device will continue work normally.

If you ever make changed to the extensions that are on the device (i.e generate new passwords) then the device will have to be manually reprovisioned again, but other than that I think it should work fine.

Hi John,
Thanks for replying.
I did actually set the Time Zone in the FXS/DECT configuration but it overrides it with Global -2:00: this is why I thought is likely a bug. I tried setting it several times but is will return to Global -12:00.
I examine the configuration file and it seems to instruct it to to set the timezone as requested but it also tells it to allow DHCP server to set the time zone and this seems to overwrite:

<!-- # Mandatory -->
<P64>TZf+4</P64>

<!-- # Self-Defined Time Zone -->
<!-- # String -->
<P246>MTZ+6MDT+5,M3.2.0,M11.1.0</P246>

<!-- # Allow DHCP server to set Time Zone. 0 - No, 1 - Yes -->
<!-- # Number: 0, 1 -->
<!-- # Mandatory -->
<P143>1</P143>

Thanks,
Carlos

Thanks Carlos, we will look further into the configuration of the HT-series and see if this can be improved in the future.

For now you can remove the provisioning link to retain your designed settings.

I think ALL provisioning template should not include network config. It should only provision the necessary settings, and DHCP isn't one of them.

I think the phones too do that.

Hello,

V18 Update 2 is expected to correct both issues mentioned out of the box.

V18 Update 1 will also see template updates that can be downloaded as of today.

- DHCP mode will not be set by 3CX
- DHCP Option-based timezone will not be set by 3CX

This means you can manually change these options as preferred, and 3CX will no longer overwrite them.
This will apply to all supported Grandstream gateways (FXO/FXS).
