Hello! We are currently working on a new service for our clients where they can use the 3cx as a softphone, letting them call private extensions or do outbound calls with ease.
Since we plan to reduce costs as much as possible, we want to do this on a single 3CX instance, thus allowing multiple extensions on it
Problem is, if our clients go to the contacts tab of the 3cx phone they would see all the other extension, invading the privacy of other people. Are there any ways around this? I already tried different groups but they show up regardless, as if the extensions were mapped to contacts.
Thank you!

Although you can select to not publish the extension in the 3cx phonebook, the extension will still appear if the client starts to search and enters any string partially matching an extension number/name. I don't believe hiding an extension completely is possible.

Have you tried segmenting extensions in to groups and unchecking this option?

While I may not have a complete list of issues when attempting to use 3CX in a multi-tenant environment, here are some things to consider:
  • You will not be able to use a company directory since it is shared by all

  • You will only have one operator extension (used in many places throughout 3CX)

  • You will not be able to have different on-hold music for each tenant

  • Anyone can call everyone. Callers entering an extension number at an IVR or internal extension-to-extension calls. It might be a surprise if I mistype an extension number and get someone from a completely different company.

  • You will need to either (1) set each extension with a caller ID, or (2) have a trunk for each client so you can control the outbound caller ID.
I'm sure there are more issues, but those are the ones that come to my mind at the moment.

We do not support multi-tenant, you will need a PBX per customer.

As described above, the system will act as if they are all under the same company PBX and cannot be isolated from each other.
