Is is possible during the ivr process for someone to call an extension, and at the end of the message prompt, be able to hit "x" key which then triggers 3CX to send them a text message (say a url)

Nope

Well, certainly not baked into 3CX at least

For the time being this does not exist as a feature, but as SMS is fairly new, we will start exploring different ways to use SMS in the future.

I can't say how yet, but we have heard and thought of some cool ideas.

Larger companies have this implemented, and in this day and age of self-support, it is nice to text either something that helps them to fix an issue, or send them to a place to schedule a time, or contact information, etc.
There are plenty of business cases for this. Thanks for the replies

You could do it using a CFD and an external provider API.

@NickD_3CX A CFD SMS component would be very nice, I have to agree.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't I see somewhere that you couldn't use CFD on the 3CX hosted platform?

That is correct. CFD service is disabled on 3CX hosted instances. You will need to host your own instance or move to a on premise solution. CFD also requires a PRO licence.
