Hello!

I work for a MSP, we have a customer with an IP Based Trunk. The current setup they have isn't in a good environment, lots of construction. We want to move their 3cx server to our office instead. How would we go about doing this. They have some physical phones, but also use softphones, when out of office. They get the trunk through spectrum. Would this be possible with an ip based trunk?

Thanks

So I don't believe Spectrum is a supported provider, but the first two google searches for me show guides for Spectrum and 3CX provided by Spectrum. The fact that it is IP based is not an issue. What most likely will be the issue is they are probably using an EMTA to deliver the SIP handoff locally, so the other end of the IP authenticated trunk is that EMTA. Unless you could get Spectrum to move that, you would be SOL.

The easier thing to do would be to setup a BYOB SIP trunk (we can help) and just setup call forwarding at the Spectrum side of things to that SIP trunk. Then once all is done, you move 3CX back and turn off call forwarding.

If the Spectrum trunks are BYOB and then it should be just a matter of having Spectrum update the IP they are sending to/expecting from and then moving the PBX (along with whatever else is needed for getting the phones to work).

If you guys are not a 3CX partner/3CX certified, you'd probably want to get help from one for this project. You can use the partner locator to find one local, or you can work someone you find here on the forums who can work with your team as boots on the ground to make this happen.

Good luck!

Hi @Banamy

What do you mean by moving the server? Is this a physical machine and you are just going to move it? If so then you will need to change the IPs inside 3CX (the system will prompt you). If this is not a physical server then you can just create a full backup and restore it in your site.
You will also need to reprovision your devices to get the new settings. If they were using physical phones inside the office then you will need to switch the provisioning type for those. You will probably need an SBC on the customers site to avoid excess configuration.

For the trunk I agree with what @cobaltit said but also i would recommend using a 3CX support SIP Trunk.

Much appreciated! I'll be sure to look into all of this great info!

Yes, we have a physical machine that hosts the server, we were just going to move it to a better suited area on a different isp. Thanks, for the reply!
