I have the 3CX version 15.5 SP 2. The certificate has expired. Because of this, I can't log in to the console. I would like to refresh the certificate to be able to use the system normally.
Following the instructions at the link below doesn’t refresh the certificate and I still cannot log in to the console:
https://www.3cx.com/docs/self-hosted-instances-ssh/
At this link:
https://saputra.org/threads/3cx-ssl-certificate-has-expired.27/
I read that to refresh the certificate (if I have version at least or newer than 15.5 SP2), I should log into the system and find and set parameter:
TEMPORARY_SELF_SIGNED_CERTIFICATE_GENERATED and give it value of 1.
The problem is that I have an outdated certificate and I can't log in to the console and set the above parameter.
What should I do to refresh the certificate?

An expired certificate won't stop you from logging into the console. You just click through the errors.

As above, try. connecting to the http port

you need to upgrade to 15.5 sp6

Hi Jarret,

You can bypass the certificate error via your browser, it is the browser that give you the error after all.
A quick google search should answer that (depending on what browser you use, it may be a slightly different method).

Then I would recommend you take a look at this article here and consider upgrading your system. It has links for upgrading to V16 from 15.x onwards. Please note that anything older than 15.5SP6 cannot contact the 3CX activation servers. V16 has significant changes and improvements, so if you have any questions regarding upgrading you can start a new thread and ask anything you want.

I would love to use your advice, but I can't log in to the console at all. Regardless of whether I’m trying to log in via a local IP address (192.168.1.x:5000) or via FQDN (3cx.mydomain.xx:5001), after entering the password I receive the message "Server Error" and I can't log in to the console, so I’m unable to update my 3CX version. To Saqqara: what do you mean by "try connecting to the http port"?

1. Can I update the system without logging into the console? If so, how can I do it?

2. I have purchased maintenance, but my 3CX version doesn’t "know" about it, because it’s an old version of 3CX that doesn’t connect to the license server. I have an outdated certificate (I have no way to update it, because I have the old version of 3CX installed and I cannot log in to it). Given the above, is it possible to receive the "Server Error" message when I trying to log into the console? Is the reason for the "Server Error" message appearing to be an out of date certificate or lack of maintenance?

3. To JohnS_3CX: Can I not be able to log into the console due to the outdated certificate? Can I get the "Server Error" message due to an out-of-date certificate? What do you mean by "You can bypass the certificate error via your browser, it is the browser that give you the error after all. A quick google search should answer that (depending on what browser you use, it may be a slightly different method)."? I'm using Chrome. I tried to log in using Microsoft Edge. In both cases I receive the "Server Error" message. Can using a different browser help solve the problem?

So it sounds like you have two issues. The 'Server Error' has nothing to do with the SSL certificate, that's probably a crashed service due to a memory issue. If you reboot the server/VM instance (not sure since you've not posted any information about your configuration, see here) that will probably solve the Server Error issue although you won't be able to resolve the SSL one by doing that.

It sounds like what you need to focus on are the steps outlined here:

Hi Jarret,

It's important to connect to the machine via remote desktop, and check your 3CX services.

It looks like some of them are no longer running and you may have to manually restart them.

This should be your first priority for now.

Restarting the server doesn't help - I restarted my machine many times...
I know I should do: "to connect to the machine via remote desktop", but the problem is I don't know how I can connect to the 3CX machine other than through the console. Please tell me how can I connect to 3CX via remote desktop.

Where is the machine hosted (if a VM)?

What OS is it running? Windows/Debian?

Do you not have access to the machine somehow? (regardless of whether 3CX is on the machine or not)

I have a problem logging in to the 3CX console - I get the "Server Error" message (no additional description, no error code).

Until 30.09.2019 everything worked correctly in the configuration described below:
The 3CX System is installed on my server (the server is physically located in my office), Windows 10 with a full update, no VM, no other operating systems are installed. In the office I have a public IP address, router with NAT, server with 3CX system is on a static local IP address. The server has Norton installed - anti-virus protection and firewall functions enabled. ALL IP addresses are blocked on 3CX. The black list includes added as allowed IP addresses indicated - 8 public and several local. My FQDN domain has an outdated SSL certificate, which expired in December 2018. I was able to log in to the 3CX console from the indicated public IP addresses and local IP addresses without any problems. Everything worked correctly until 30.09.2019.

The next day I couldn't log in to the console - "System Error" message.

To solve the problem, I did the following:
First, I bought the SSL certificate for my FQDN domain. Then I replaced the certificate in C:\Program Files\3CX Phone System\Bin\nginx\conf\instance1 and restarted NGINX. Now, when I go to my domain address (https://3cx.mydomain.xx:5001) and check the certificate, I see that it is actual and valid until October 2020. Then I turned off all Norton services (anti-virus and firewall). I’m trying to login to 3CX with different IP addresses (public and local) which are added to the blacklist as allowed. I keep getting the same message - "Server Error".

Ok since this is a Windows 10 machine, can you log on to the desktop and then check your services?

If you have an antivirus on your running PBX then you didn't follow 3CX instal documentation , you need to exclude antivirus scan on 3CX folders at least.

I uninstalled Norton Antivirus and restarted Windows. Next, when I try to log in to the console, I still get the "Server Error" message.

Below I present running services in Windows.

did you tried a database server service restart ?
do this out of business hours as it restart all services

My working hours are programmed between 07:00 and 21:00. I have restarted the entire server repeatedly during business hours and out of business hours - nothing has changed - every time and still I get the same message: "Server Error".

on local ip adress directly on port 5000 mc is not working too?

do you have a good backup ? if so why not trying to do a complete reinstall?

which release of W10 do you have ? is it the latest V1909 ?

As you can see above, even on the local address, on the machine on which the 3 CX system is running, the same message appears on port 5000.

I'm using Win 10 Pro, V 1903, but the problem occurred in September 2019, when version 1909 didn't yet exist.
A moment ago I installed version 1909 and restarted the server - no changes - the same message "Server Error".

I have the last comprehensive backup from November 2018, so it's over a year old. From November 2018 the 3CX system was constantly working: inbound and outbound connections, but most importantly, changes were made to siptrunks, changes to the list of internal numbers, inbound and outbound rules, new queues and changes in the design of existing queues - that's why I'm fighting for this data because they aren't in the November 2018 backup.
