Hello,
We trying to set up a new 3CX in-house server as a standby failover server for our active 3CX server. The idea being we will manual failover to it if and when need to do maintenance on the active server.

1) I can't find documentation to suggest when setting up the 2nd server and selecting "Restore an existing backup configuration" that it will or will not automatically become active and take over from our existing active server or does it just happily sit there passively?

2) When we have the 2nd 3CX server restoring each night and have "Do not start services on restore" selected. How do we start all the services on this 2nd server manually? can this be done by the 3CX console or do I start the services in windows server manually?

Many thanks in advance

What license do you have ?.

If you want failover, you really need a Enterprise license as it allows you to run the license on two machines.

You can use Pro license but this requires two pro licenses.

More info on failover- https://www.3cx.com/docs/failover/

Thanks for your response. We have a Pro licence. (I'll need to check if we have 1 or 2). Agreed that Enterprise license is the best for failover - hence why we're trying a manual failover process.

Thanks for the link that suggests using the inbuilt option of failing over which I don't want to use due to the limitations of the pro licence. I would prefer to do the failover completely manually

1. The documentation is pretty clear (https://www.3cx.com/docs/failover/ ). The restore and the fail over configuration are two different sections. So if you don't configure the fail over section, then it will sit there exactly as configured.

2. They are services so you start them as you would any other service in Windows. There's also a services section in the management console.

Since you aren't doing this the 3CX way you're probably better off just virtualizing 3CX and doing fail over in the VM. No backup/restore mess, no worrying about starting services, etc.
