How to Route Callbacks to the Sales Agent Who Originally Called?

Hey everyone!

I'm hoping someone here might have solved this puzzle before, because I'm a bit stuck!

My Setup

  • 3CX Version: 20.0 (Self-hosted)
  • License: 8SC Pro
  • Sales team in one Department (they only make outbound calls)
  • Back Office team in a Queue (handling all inbound calls)
  • No CRM connected yet

The Challenge

Here's what's happening and it's driving us crazy:
  1. Sales agent calls customer → no answer, missed call
  2. Customer sees the missed call and calls back
  3. Call goes to Back Office instead of the Sales person who called them
  4. Back Office has to figure out who called and transfer... not ideal!

What I'm Looking For

Ideally, when a customer calls back within about 1 hour of our missed call:
  • Send them straight to the Sales agent who originally tried to reach them
  • If that agent is busy/offline → send to Back Office queue as backup
  • After 1 hour → just go to Back Office as normal

What I've Looked At So Far

  • Digital Receptionist seems pretty basic - just the IVR menu options
  • Manually adding Caller IDs to Inbound Rules... but that's not really sustainable with lots of customers

My Questions

I'd love to know if anyone has tackled this before:
  1. Is there a clever way to use Inbound Rules that I'm missing?
  2. Would adding a CRM integration solve this? (And which one works well with 3CX?)
  3. Can 3CX check recent call history in real-time and route based on that?
  4. Any creative workarounds you've used?
I'm totally open to suggestions - scripts, integrations, different approaches, whatever works! Even if it means upgrading the license if that's really the only way.

Thanks so much in advance for any ideas! This community has been super helpful before, so fingers crossed!

This is possible with CFD.

CRM + CFD. That's always how we do it. There are other ways but it's the easiest. Let me know if you'd like some more details.
