We purchased 3CX SBE last November with upgrade insurance.

There are some features on Version 9 we would like to and want to take the opportunity to move the 3CX to a 100% dedicated machine.

Can someone advise the best upgrade process? Should we copy everything across from the old machine to the new machine on version 8 and then upgrade? Or do we do a clean Version 9 install and then import the settings (I think we can save settings on old system) ?

How does the system recognise our license, or do we need to get a new one?

Gary.

The system should recognize your license. Backup the old system on v8 on the old machine using the 3cx backup/restore tool. Install v9 on the new machine. Restore the pbx using the 3cx backup/restore tool. Go through and change any settings that were IP specific if you're changing your IP as well. Then go to the license page and make sure it picked up your license.

It is as simple as that.

If ip changes, or mac changes (since it is a different iP) your license will need to be activated again.
If you do not have an internet connection on the new machine, your license will not succeed.
If you have an activation request will be sent and your pbx will be licensed no problems.

If OS is different, example migrating from server 2003 to 2008 you need to change certain entries that are path related like documents and settings vs program data.

We migrated from Vista to Windows7, then restored settings from backup. Except for forwarding rules (which have changed in version 9) everything transferred correctly and all looks licensed and verified.

we changed the IP address of the new machine to match the old one and everything worked first time, amazing!

36 hour on and not a single issue with Version 9 RC - great work guys!

Gary
