If you use the regenerate to create new credentials for SIP on SP6 it also changes the Voicemail PIN!!!!!

I agree, I just discovered this myself, but it does state "All selected extension passwords and credentials will be reset and new ones will be generated." when re-generating.

I originally thought this was just SIP user authentication credentials, however with PIN number as well it will mean that new Welcome Email's will need to be sent out to all users that have been regenerated.

Why would it regenerate the PIN for voicemail. That is so silly it isn't even funny. The PIN has nothing to do with the new password requirements.

Excellent question!

Because "Regenerate" is actually intended to reset an extension so it could be used for a new user.

Scenario:

Bob works in Accounts Payable. His extension is 1234 and his voicemail pin is 9876 (horrible pin, btw, but this is an example).

Bob decides to move on and go over to competitor's company and the old company hires Sue to replace him.

There are two choices here:

  1. Just rename the extension for Sue and leave the credentials as they are... which results in Bob having access, voicemail, and use of the PBX with the existing web credentials he has, or the mobile app on his phone, or the client installed on his home PC ... you get the idea.

  2. The solution (and the right solution in my opinion) is to click "Regenerate" on Bob's extension, then set it up for Sue, then send Sue the welcome email. This results in all passwords being reset - the web client, phone management, extension, and voicemail so that Bob can focus on his job at the new company and Sue can focus on hers.
I hope that helps to explain it a little...
