Installing 3CX SBC on Raspberry Pi 4

3CX PBX is no longer supported on Raspberry Pi devices. This guide is intended to cover the set-up and installation of the 3CX SBC only.

Currently I am running 3CX v18 update 2 in a RPi. My intention was to install v18 update 5 on a PC running Ubuntu server OS, then have the RPi run 3CX SBC, but isn’t that a bit pointless when both are on the same LAN? Just seems easier to backup the existing 3CX system and transfer it on to the Ubuntu server, although the server wouldn’t be dedicated to running 3CX.

The startup option isn’t really suitable as the restriction of 10 users limits for expansion in the future, currently have 6 users already which hopefully won’t expand past 10 but cannot guarantee that, also how many SIP trunks can you connect on the startup option?

If your PBX is on a local machine (which would be Debian by the way, not Ubuntu), then you don't need the SBC.

If you're talking about using an existing server, don't...install via the 3CX ISO and don't run anything else on it so you're supported.

No SBC if on the same LAN. An SBC is used to tunnel to a remote server.

StartUP has a Pro option that goes up to 20, unless you're looking to stay on the free version. "How many SIP trunks" as in using multiple providers?

Thanks for that, has confirmed what I was suspecting, that a SBC isn’t needed, the RPi instance will be confined to history and migrated over to the server. The server definitely is running Ubuntu server, ssh shows that it is running Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS.

Hopefully migration will be trouble free.

That is a shame as the existing server is one that will be unable to reuse with 3CX iso due to the what I already use it for. Having said that just for 3CX use doesn’t really need anything too powerful, so looks like a second server is going to be needed.

For Sip trunks I have 2 from the same supplier. And a Patton analogue gateway that if use will make it 3 trunks.

For those that find this and are wondering, Raspberry Pi is no longer a supported hardware platform for a full PBX. The final supported version is 18U3. They've developed a feature to allow a SIP desk phone (supported models only // Fanvil and Yealink T5x) to act as an SBC so it wouldn't surprise me to see them drop support for the pi altogether eventually.

I followed the directions, but the 2021-05-07-raspios-buster-armhf-lite.img fails on boot.
I get a Not syncing: Requested init /user/lib/raspi-config/init_resize.sh (error -8)
