This post ONLY concerns users running 3CX v18 on Raspberry Pi. It DOES NOT refer to users RUNNING THE SBC on Raspberry Pi!
Raspberry Pi4 as a PBX
There are a number of largely free users running 3CX Phone System V18 on Raspberry Pi4 devices. A few years ago running 3CX on a Raspberry Pi sounded like a good idea. However now, with the advent of inexpensive cloud computing and most importantly the free 3CX StartUP solution, running a dedicated 3CX instance on Raspberry Pi no longer makes sense, both for users and 3CX.
Managing and updating the instance is a lot of work for users, and testing an additional platform takes too many of 3CX’ resources.
We have already stopped updating 3CX v18 for Raspberry Pi users since Update 2. We now regret to inform you that we don't intend making any additional builds of v18 for Raspberry Pi4. It's also unlikely we will make a version for Raspberry Pi once we move to Debian 11.
Migrate to 3CX StartUP
With 3CX StartUP you can now run 3CX free of charge in the cloud, for up to 10 users. We will host, update and guard your system free of charge. We strongly recommend that you migrate your PBX to a 3CX StartUP instance instead.
From the "Systems" page in the Customer Portal, click the "Add System" button in the top right corner. Select "Hosted by 3CX" > "Up to 10 users - 3CX StartUP"
Raspberry Pi as an SBC device
As stated above, companies that are using a Raspberry Pi4 as an SBC device are not affected. We will continue to make builds of our SBC running on Raspberry Pi!
However, we are working with our preferred vendors to make a version of the SBC running on modern IP Phones. This will greatly simplify deployment of an SBC since you will no longer need a dedicated SBC device.
