I have a client with 3 locations and they are currently using 3CX at each location.
They would like to directly dial an extension instead of calling the main number of the other locations and asking to speak to a specific person.

How can this be accomplished without a Bridge? I saw something about an extension to Generic SIP Trunk, is that possible?
It's not in their budget to upgrade to Professional.

Hi
Are the 3 locations in same country? if so, why not using only one 3CX cloud and SBCs on locations

They are in the same city, and cost is the main factor. They have servers at each location. And 3cx has been running great on those and no additional costs. It's only 4 phones per location but the owners want to contact each other easier now.

Are you asking how to get Pro features for free? sounds like you're running the free 3CX x 3 but want paid features...

Also, Dial main number > Hit IVR > Enter EXT number

You talk about "main number of each location", does that suppose each location have only one DID ?

You think cost is the main factor, but you explain too that problem is the owners want to contact faster others people, for me you have to factors here, cost and convenience.

I see multiple solutions here :
  • as others saids, one 3cx and somes sbc, cost is not very expensive (raspberry, or even use the device used for 3cx before),
  • bridge but ofc seems more expensive if you need bigger licence,
  • if you have one DID per agent, you can just use BLF to make calls faster but I suppose each agent dont have a unique DID because this seems too much simple,
  • and lastly my personnal tricky suggestion ;) filter income calls by CID, if its from another agency, or owners, they dont follow normal route (queue or group or extension) but this CID is redirect into an IVR in which you can press 1 to 9 to have the agent you want.
For the last one, its a solution without any cost, you just have to make an additional IVR and inbound route in each 3CX. What do you think about this ?

ps : oups I just saw this was proposed before...arf sry, it was kieferschild who said that first.

If each location uses DIDs, and you want to avoid setting up Bridge trunks (which would really be the best option), as long as there were no extension numbering conflicts between PBXs, you could use a speed dial set-up. If PBX 2 had extensions 200 to 299 , as an example, ad PBX 1 used 100 to 199 (no conflicting extension numbers), and DIDs were used at both locations to allow direct dialing of extensions. then you could set up outbound rules, to send the full DID number when the extension number were dialled.

Ext 101 dials 233---> outbound rule matches 3 digit rule 233, remove 3 digits, prepend 6145557233 (DID number), and send out on outbound trunk group.

Thanks for all the replies, after some tough persuading I will be moving them to google cloud platform with SBC's at the remote locations.

This is maybe another topic but is there a planning guide for 3CX? One that I can have a client fill out with extensions, names, numbers etc.
I have a very large install coming in the very near future and would like to give them something to fill out.

I recall something about this coming up a long while back, and I believe someone did offer up a customer "questionnaire" to be filled in. Perhaps someone has one available that they will put forward.

Excel is your friend

I'm asking if there is a pre made document, not something I have to create.

Here are some past posts on the same topic...

Trying to come up with a one-shoe fits all is going to be difficult, as customer need differ greatly. If it is a customer that is moving from an existing PBX/service, to 3CX, then becoming familiar with what they currently have, and any limitations they wish to overcome, and /or changes they wish to make, is what you'll want to concentrate on. many customers want a new system that , for the most part works the same way as what they are familiar with, but adding what they would like to do, but currently cannot. One of those posts does have a link to another company offering something that may help.
