Is Grandstream GXW4018 compatible?

Hi all,

Has anyone used GXW4108 FXO?
We're planning to purchase the 8 ports but it is not listed in the 3CX add gateway option.
And we're in doubt what if it doesn't work and we already purchased it.

Hoping for your feedback and opinions.

Anything SIP compliant is compatible. As you noted, it's not listed so it's not supported.

Best to get a supported device unless you are intimately familiar with the device and its interface and setup with 3CX: https://www.3cx.com/voip-gateways/

For an 8 port device you are going to be a bit stuck for Grandsream you have only 4 port variants and I would always advise against (unless strictly necessary) a 2 box solution. Options for you as far as I can see are:

• Set up the Grandsteam manually.
• See if Grandstream have written a template for this device (still un-supported by 3CX).
• Get a Patton 4141 8 Port FXO: supports 8 ports as far as the below guide is concerned and in my view is the better brand, it would also give you a single box solution: https://www.3cx.com/voip-gateways/patton-sn4141-fxo/

GXW4108 is the 8 port big brother of the officially supported GXW4104 4 port.

You can configure it in 3CX using the GXW4104 template and then review the settings it gets and make a few tweaks. It works quite well. It used to be officially supported but not for several years.

Multiple GXW4104 units is also a good idea if you want to save the headache of doing manual changes.

while the Patton sn4114 is a great unit, you can probably get the 4 port Grandstream for close to half of the Patton price.

What would be the issue of the 2 box solution?

2 gateways = 2 x sets of configuration requirements, 2 sets of autoprovisioning, 2 separate IP addresses and splitting requirement of your DDI numbers between 2 separate boxes.

If you are using FXO also for outbound calls you will then have two separate outbound trunks you then will have 2 separate trunking routes for outbound calls. technically there are not too many restrictions but it is double the work and can get quite fiddley at times.

Thats the legacy model, which is no longer available, it has been replaced by the SN4141 which runs the Trinity based firmware. Agree with your cost concerns but I find that extra cost becomes worth while if/when you have to troubleshoot issues as the Pattons are very detailed devices.

Having two devices should not be an issue with DID numbers as (using this gateway) these are analogue PSTN lines. Any DID information is put into the gateway by you, to identify the phone number of each line. That number can be passed that on to 3CX in the same manner as a DID. If you have a hunt group service, with 2-way trunks, from your provider (most likely), this will normally have a pilot number (main number) The remaining lines would normally be assigned either a Pseudo number or a real number that is not normally dialled directly,. If you plan on using some lines, strictly for incoming, like a DID, then you probably don't want "general" outgoing traffic using those lines.
