Hi everyone,

We don't work with a 3CX reseller as we are a reseller of IT products ourselves and used to sell Digium so we are already set up with a distributor here. A year ago I noticed they now also sell 3CX. Last December I purchased a licence for 3CX Professional for 16 concurrent calls and just installed it ourselves on AWS using the PBX Express thing which has a domain being hosted by 3CX vs just a custom one.

The problem I have now is that we don't need 16 concurrent calls as even 8 is probably overkill for us. When I use the licence configurator there's a few issues so wondering what to do in this case:

1) There's no way to downgrade to 8 concurrent calls as I can either buy a new licence, or pick upgrade which just shows 32 calls and above.

2) Even if I pick to renew the 16 concurrent calls of Professional, it is now $300 more expensive than it was when we bought it a year ago.

So it seems like I need to buy a new licence of 3CX Professional with 8 concurrent calls, but am I able to do a backup of our current system, reinstall and then restore that backup? Or would I need to start everything from scratch again? Ideally I'd rather not have to wipe and reinstall everything but I don't want to pay for 16 calls since we don't need it and the price has gone up so much. (It actually even shows MSRP and then show the distributor cost which is higher than what the MSRP is).

I noticed that PBX Express supports Lightsail now so I may even just use that instead so reinstalling isn't terrible (as I wouldn't mind even changing our hosted url), but wondering mainly if I can just restore my backup from my 16 concurrent call professional one or if it will complain that I'm trying to restore a 16 call version on an 8 call system now, or about the domain being different. Thanks!

You should be able to just purchase the new 8 call license and just replace the license within the system. You shouldn't have to rebuild the server, or even restore it from a backup.

Great thanks! I'll try that then worst case can rebuild. If I replace the licence does it start the new 12 months from when the existing one expires or does it start immediately, do you know?

I would assume immediately

You are replacing the the license so expiration starts from the date of activation.
