Hi all,

One customer has still a 3CX version V18 update 7 running. I want to update this to the latest V18 and then to v20.
Unfortunately the software update feature in the PBX is not working anymore (Out of Date).
ReleaseNew 18.0 Update 8 B HotfixOut Of Date18.0.7.31218.0.8.939

It also shows an message though the actual license (key) is still payed/valid:
" Your Subscription expired on 07/03/2024. Without subscription you lose access to important features. Find out more ."

How can i update this machine to V20?

I thought about something like installing a fresh V18 update 8 (or 9) and restore a backup of the current machine followed by the default update flow after that.
IF this is the way, can I do this on another virtual (test) machine and if i arrived on V20, install V20 on the "live" server and restore the (v20) backup from the test VM OR need this be done directly on the "live" machine.

I already asked my 3CX partner where i host the PBX and bought the license but they cannot get the PBX updated and they say they can't help me as we missed to update the PBX.
Thanks for the help so far.

First thing, i would change my partner! You could try to find an v18 ISO and try to install the last update and restore the backup. From this you could go to v20. Depends on how complicated your configuration is, you start from scratch directly on v20.

I preffer to follow the v18 to v20 update route. Can you help me to get a V18 iso? i only can find a v20 iso.

My advice on this one is to NOT use a Version 18 backup that isnt Update 9 to move to version 20.

It is very very important that the backup is on Update 9.

(Added this in for future reference to others as well)

Nicholas, Thanks for your reply.

Will a clean install of a V18 update 9 machine with a recovered backup from the V18.7 machine work?
This could be the V18 update 9 situation i can update to V20 in that case.

So would this work?:
1. Backup V18 update 7
2. Install clean V18 update 9
3. Restore backup from step 1 into the V18 update 9 machine
4. Update the V18.9 machine to V20

If not, whats your recommendation?

Absolutely!

So would this work?:
1. Backup V18 update 7
2. Install clean V18 update 9
3. Restore backup from step 1 into the V18 update 9 machine
4. Update the V18.9 machine to V20

You missed one critical step!

Step 4 should be "Take a backup of Version 18 Update 9"

Always have a backup of every step.
