All of our users' login to a Remote Desktop Server and use an Access / VBA application on that server. We want them to be able to dial contacts on that database (via 3CX) at the press of a button. However, the 3CX server will be on a different site.

I understand that the 3CX API used to initiate the call needs to sit on the 3CX server, so we will need to establish a way to send a signal/message to that API (on a different server) in order to initiate the call.

I have a pretty good knowledge of VBA, Javascript and am OK with c#/.Net - but before I embark on this project I want to check a couple of things (and hopefully get a little guidance):

1. Has anyone already done this, who would be willing/able to supply a solution that gets us close
2. If not, I could really do with some pointers (that would speed things up), as to the process/methodology required. For example:

- Write a DLL (via C#) and reference it into the VBA application
- Write some VBA to communicate with the DLL and pass the necessary variables to make the call
- Write a small service (via C#) that sits on the 3CX server and can initiate a call
- Make sure the Firewalls are set-up to allow communication between the two servers
- Have the local DLL open up a communications channel with the 3CX server
- Have the local DLL communicate with the small application and send the relevant variables to make the call
- Obtain call results (I could possibly use the REST API for this to make life easier)

The above is pretty much guess-work, so any guidance, code snippets or help in general - would be massively appreciated.

Thank you.

As you have probably already discovered, the 3CX Call Control API only allows connections from local host. So you need some type of "relay" or REST API to invoke 3CX API commands from a remote computer. In previous version of 3CX they had a HTTP API but it has since been dropped. The good news is that we have a Enhanced HTTP API that allows you to perform all the typical phone functions: MakeCall, Transfer, Drop, Listen, Barge, etc. Take a look at our HTTP API.

That HTTP API is a voiptools product, not provided by 3CX. We don't have an HTTP API at the moment.
