Why do you not support Linode? Digital Ocean is more expensive and Vultr is as well in certain instances. I mean the company's all do the same thing, VPS. So really, what is the reason why you're not supporting Linode?

Hi @Modern Telecom ,

Thank you for your message.
I believe the matter should be viewed the other way around.

« Is it possible to... support Linode ? »

I'm going to let Developer (3CX) answer question … but in my opinion…. just because they don't... doesn't mean they don't want to.
There are many solutions like AWS, Azure, Linode…. ….

For all support, 3CX .. needs humans resources to maintain interoperability between versions.. More humans resources = more cost. More cost = higher selling price .

If you are a 3CX Seller/Partner, post your suggestion in the idea section. If you are an end user, communicate your suggestion to your 3CX Partner/Reseller to publish your idea if he too sees real opportunity potential.

Good day

I was hoping to use a Linode bucket to store our 3CX backups. Has anyone had any success with this?

Why not use 3CX Hosted ?
It offers you an "all inclusive" service .
You don't even have to worry about where to store your backups. I recommend.

@Modern Telecom If you make such statements then quite clearly you have no experience at all in hosting instances.

no, not all VPS are the same in terms of

a. how many instances are on a machine
b. Failover in case of hardware failure
c. All memory and CPU are shared so it really depends how its allocated. 1 GIG memory on one provider can be a completely different experience compared to another provider. Same for CPU
d. Support levels.

So stick to 3CX Hosted until you know more about it.

We use a 3CX Titanium Partner to host our 3CX instance and supply our 3CX license and are satisfied with both 3CX and the host. Unfortunately the host is not able to upgrade our disk allocation and this is why we need external backup capacity.

As a result the answers given (to use 3CX hosting) is not helpful in our scenario and in my view undermines the 3CX partner. To take your advice would be to switch to 3CX hosting and take business away from your partner.

I understand that 3CX cannot at this moment connect to a Linode bucket and accept that this is a limitation of 3CX. Adding this facility is a selling point to me and it will be to our customers and other users too.

In that case your partner should be supporting you if they are providing the services. Ask them for solutions if you are not self supporting this instance. If they are your host, they are the ones you likely need to ask.

For backups, you can setup a Linode virtual machine to accept SFTP connections and use that as your target if you insist on a way to get backup data into a linode system. Their object storage uses S3 protocol which is not a supported option in 3cx so you would not be able to go directly to that type of storage. But this is all steps you will have to figure out and implement on your own or with the assistance of your partner if that is something they offer as a service, it's not part of 3cx at that point.

Yes it would be nice to have S3 storage in 3cx as a backup target. More and more providers are adding S3 compatible object storage all the time. Again your partner can post it as an idea for future improvements. There are also cloud storage providers who also have SFTP as a built in option if you want to send backups "off site" but are not interested in Google cloud storage.

@QueBall Thanks for a very considered and sensible answer. We have already asked the host for a storage upgrade - but they said they could not do it; in all honesty I have not explored why, I have taken it at face value. I take your point about SFTP into a VM.

I'd be more concerned as to why the platinum partner is unable to find you a solution to expand your storage.

I thought the exact same thing.

Everyone has his own opinion…
We have calculated the total real (and operational based) costs for the model completely managed (monitor, updates, backups, ect…) and hosted by us VS the model managed and hosted by 3CX.

The margins offered by 3CX are reasonable and ultimately based on the type of customer targeted (1 to 20 users), it does not break our business model.
On the contrary, it allows us to offer our customers a better experience at a lower cost price (therefore lower selling price).

Honestly, the only reason we can no longer offer the product (for now) is because our Trunk SIP provider is no longer listed. That said, the executives of the company I work for intend to convey interest to our Account Manager, in offering 3CX StartUP to our existing and future customers (when they qualify) and to try to find a solution with 3CX , to permit our partner/supplier of SIP Trunk to be listed or … find other alternative allowing us to make it work...

It just goes to show how much it doesn't "undermine" the 3CX Partner program. We are a Titanium Partner and are looking for solutions to market a product that makes you believe that undermines the 3CX Partner model. It deserves consideration, what do you think? :)
No offense, I think we are well qualified to know that this does not undermine the 3CX Partner Program, as Titanium Partners, The highest 3CX partners level. :p

I invite everyone to do the "calculation"... not just the acquisition costs... take into consideration the deployment, operating and management costs...

Our biggest challenge is not finding customers, it's how to deliver them faster.. because we lose opportunities due to delivery delays. "Labour" is hard to find.. 3CX StartUP is undoubtedly the solution for us, we see a great opportunity there. Delivery times almost zero

This is my opinion, and the opinion of the leaders I work for.. I respect your opinion but those who feel that 3CX is undermining the Partner Program.. I invite them to revise their calculations… And if their models are more economical… (While respecting 3CX's hardware recommendations) .. They can continue to host themselves. 3CX has not removed the ability to continue self-managing.

Ps.: 3CX StartUP .. that's an unlimited number of simultaneous calls! (no limit of simultaneous calls of the license)

Respectfully,
