Hi,

I've got a T53 handset which has already been provisioned and has very recently been installed in a remote location. It is not currently set as a router phone/SBC, but I now need to somehow make that handset a router phone. I can't see an option to do that on the 3CX side unless I've missed it somehow. Is it possible to make it a router phone once it's been deployed? Do I perhaps need to delete the phone and then create it again within 3CX but this time choose the option to make it a router phone? I was hoping I could make the change somewhere in the 3CX then have the handset pick up the new config remotely as I do not currently have browser access to the handset or easy access to where it's been installed.

The 3CX is currently version 18.0 Update 9 (Build 20).

If anyone can point me in the right direction please it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

You will need to factory reset, remove from the extension and then add it as a router phone.
Be aware though that you also need to update the phone to the latest 3CX Supported Firmware: https://www.3cx.com/docs/phone-firmwares/

Thanks @TheodorosG_3CX ,

I feared that may be the case. I am not sure that the end user will be able to factory reset the handset so I will most likely need to go there physically. If I can gain browser access to the T53 remotely then would I be able to factory reset it from within the web interface or do I need to have physical access to it?

Thanks!

To be honest, it is not something difficult to factory reset as you only need to press one button continuously:

Ok thanks, I did see that, but I assumed that the handset would ask for the admin password to perform the factory reset action.

Similarly, the location also has 2 Yealink DECT handsets which are already programmed to connect via a different router phone set up at the same location but on a totally separate network and separate internet connection. So this physical location will eventually have 2 router phones on 2 separate networks which are not connected (it's a long story). I believe once the 2nd router phone is up and running I'll just need to go into the 3CX config of the 2 DECT handsets and change the SBC from the old one to the new one? Or will I need to factory reset those too? They're all on the latest firmware already by the way.

Thanks!

You can reset Yealink from the phone web GUI. Just copy the web page password from 3CX before deleting the phone.

I don’t remember offhand if I had to restart the phone after the reset. I think it was: log in to phone, delete from 3CX, reset phone, add to 3CX as router phone, and restart the phone again to provision it.

On v18, at least, you can change/assign a phone’s SBC in 3CX, and provision. Ensure the phone is using itself! In at least one case it was unassigned and thus not functioning even though other phones worked through it.

Also the router phone needs to be the first phone on the extension/user. Others can be added after.

something I have tried that seemed to work, open the new web client console where you can setup the router phone on the extension, copy the mac address. also open the older management console. reboot the phone from the old management console and immediately switch to the web client admin panel. delete the phone and re-add it as a router phone as fast as possible. meanwhile the phone is still in the middle of a reboot.

when it comes back up, it will ping the remote provisioning server and download the new configuration that it's now a router phone. Once the phone reboots again, it comes up as a router phone. It's a bit of a trick, but I've been able to get a couple to do this. Factory reset was NOT required.

if you have remote access to the site via a PC, you can simply log into the phones GUI and go to the provisioning area (yealink has autoprovision now button) and hit that provision now button after you reconfigure the phone as a router phone. We recently had a transformer blow on a customer and it took out our SBC so I had to drive over and reprogram phones to be router phones, again no reset was required.

we're in the process of building out the client base (that has the ability to run router phones) to setup a bunch of them as it eliminates the single point of failure from a raspberry pi or intel nuc SBC. as long as their internet doesn't go down, at least they have a few SBCs running to bounce calls through.

Good to know. I wonder then if it would pick it up at the overnight/24h reprovision interval. I believe others have posted in the past that a deleted phone is still usable/connected...?

I have actually port forwarded :443 to a phone, source = our office IP. Yealink does not honor the port in the URL though, it needs to be :443.
