Migrate 3CX from Windows platform to Linux(Debian) platform

Hi there

Our office has a 3CX installed on Windows, and I want to migrate it to Debian, without losing any configs and data, anyone could you please help me with the process step by step.

What is your current version of 3cx, as using the Debian iso image will be version 18 - you can only upgrade from certain versions


Backup 3cx windows with fqdn and license key - copy this file locally
Shutdown windows server
Install Debian (would use same ip as windows server) using iso image https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/installing-debian-linux-pbx/
When you run the wizard , select restore from backup https://www.3cx.com/docs/manual/configuring-your-pbx/

Hi Sorry for the late reply, we are still using ver 16, can I assign a new IP to the new server?

Yes but read this. If you use the same IP then anything connecting by IP will still find it.

Thanks, we've used the fqdn to provision the phones, so guess we have to point the new IP to that fqdn, then its fine i assumn

Also clarify where the phones are located in relation to the PBX machine.

HI Decided to use the same IP and FQDN, so guess this is easy?
backup V16 version in Windows with IP and License, recording,
then shutdown the Windows server,
Install new 3CX V18 Dabian with iso then import from backup in wizard?

Yes, that would be what you want to do:

1. Shutdown Windows
2. Install 3CX from ISO and finish the installation and restore the 3CX backup
3. Log into the via SSH and change the IP Address of your Debian to match what your Windows machine had
   (Guide here, see section "Configuring Static IP on Debian 10 or 11")
4. Log into the Management Console --> Dashboard, click where it says "IP mismatch" that will have appeared probably, set the new IP from the drop-down
5. You are set to go!
