Hi guys,

After updating 3CX from Version 16 Update 3 to Version 16 update 4 the welcome email does not contain the QR code. It says in the text use the attached QR code but there is no QR code. It only has PDF instruction file and config file.

What am I missing?

I changed my email address to my private gmail account and there I recieve 3 attachements. One of them is the QR code. So it seems somehow office365 related. Maybe a security setting of some kind?

We have definitely seen this issue with Office 365 clients.
What I've observed: If the 3CX system uses 3CX SMTP service - the attachments will certainly be blocked. If their 3CX system is using a 365 email account to send the emails - things seem to go through.

No QR code attachment here on O365 as well. But you can always do what it says before that and open the web client and scan the QR code. Although honestly I've never used the QR code. Every client that uses the app get's their email on their phone and the attachment works fine there.

Here's another Office365 user with no QR codes in the welcome e-mails. I am using my own SMTP server, not 365 nor 3CX.

Where are you routing your SMTP Server?

I'm on 16.0.3.676
Local 3cx Server routing to Local SMTP server handing mail off to 365.

No QR Code here on my business email account from 365...
Sending to my gmail account - I do receive the QR Code.

It's a local Zimbra server.

You say you are a 365 customer. Perhaps you do not mean your mail goes thru 365 - you are using Office components on a 365 subscription?

Otherwise, you would have to route the local SMTP Server to 365 for mail delivery if you are on 365...

3CX -> Local Zimbra -> Office 365.

The mail sender is homed to Zimbra, while the mail recipient is on Office 365.

Most of the Office 365 users are with the "Office 365 Business Premium" license. The receiving mail is on 365.

Thanks for enlightening me... :)
So it sounds like 365 is the culprit for sure... but not on the connector, since my Gmail receives ok.

Just tried re-sending my welcome email. I got the config and the getting started with PDF but no QR code. Not that bothered as I've never used the QR code.

Having the same issue with O365 after updating to v16 update 4. I changed my extension to use my personal gmail account and the QR code was attached to the email.

Hi everyone, just a small update here, we believe we have identified the issue causing the QR code not to appear when using an O365 SMTP.

This will most likely be deployed along with V16 Update 5.

In case this helps, my receiving email account is on O365. I use a gmail account as SMTP in 3CX.
  1. The received Welcome Email viewed in Outlook 2010 on PC DOES NOT contain the QR code attachment.
  2. The same email view in office portal Outlook online DOES NOT contain the QR attachment.
  3. The same email, viewed on android through 9Folders email client app CONTAINS the QR code attachment.
  4. If I forward the email from 9Folders that shows the QR (myself to myself, the same email the Welcome originally went to), the forwarded message received and viewed in Outlook 2010 on PC still DOES NOT contain the attachment, but this time in the office portal Outlook online it does.

Very weird and confusing, hope this helps.

And hopefully this test is added to your QA process as well?

Same issue here! O365 only 2 attachments (no QR image), Gmail gets 3.

Using 3CX SMTP server.

Installed a customer with orange.fr mails, no issue, we correctly received the QR attachment. Using 3CX SMTP server.

We are experiencing the same issue... having set up a new extension and then dropped back to the extensions screen and selected the new extension check box an then clicked "send welcome email" the system sends the email but the QR code is not visible in the email if viewed in Outlook 10, 13 or 16 or in OWA but when opening the email on a Android phone the QR.png is visible as an attachment and can then be saved and sent again as an attachment where it can be opened and scanned. Possibly this is an exchange security issue... but I can't identify it yet.... any thoughts welcome!!

This was already acknowledged as an issue by 3CX 6 posts above yours. Not sure what additional thoughts are needed. Update 5 alpha is out and the fix is noted in the change log:
