We have about 1TB of archived recordings on a local SMB share that we need to move to Google Storage.
After some reading, it sounds like 3CX stores an index of the recordings so they can't just be moved.
Has anyone done this before?

Hi Gary,

If you perform the archiving from your management console, it will move the files into your Google Storage for you, but they will still appear in your management console with this icon next to them and they will be accessible/downloadable:

And no, they can't just be moved manually, that would "break" the paths in 3CX and you can see them but not download them.

Go ahead and try it with a test PBX to see how it works.

Thanks John,
Are you saying if we change the archive location from SMB to Google Storage within 3CX it will move the archived files over?

Good idea on the test PBX. I'll see if I can get something spun-up.

Ah very sorry Garry I missed that part and spoke too soon. If the files are already moved to SMB, they are already associated with that path permanently.

Your only viable option now is to keep the older archived recordings in SMB, and move future ones in Google (meaning the archive will span across two locations).

If you are keeping your recordings for legal reasons and will purge them after say 6 months, once all the SMB ones are purged you will effectively only have archives in Google Storage and the now empty SMB server can be retired/freed.

Hope this helps!

No worries, I assumed that would be the case.

I'll see if we can swap the archive destination at some point.

Thanks again!
