Hi All

We have completed about 10 installs using hosted 3CX on AWS Lightsail, some using STUN and some using Raspberry SBC's, but all with Yealink T46S phones. On these install we had no issues with voice quality on internal or external calls, i.e. no customer complaints. We decided to start using Fanvil's for all our desk phone requirements. On all our later installations we have used either the Fanvil, X4's, X6's, X6u's and X210. Since moving to Fanvil all our customers are complaining about the same issue - muffled voice on external and internals calls. On these installs using Fanvils we have provisioned the phones with either STUN or Raspberry SBC's. With STUN i have used unique SIP and RTP ports per extension and used port forwarding for each phone. I have also played around with the codecs on each ext. using g722 HD and PCMA, but still the voice call is muffled. With the phones provisioned using a SBC the only change on 3CX is 'PBX Delivers Audio' is un-ticked.

Please can anybody help us with a resolution for this muffled issue, thanks in advance for any help.

I guess key question number one is swap out one of these Fanvils for a Yealink test and see if you get the same result. You then know if it is an issue with site/network/setup or phone brands.

I had the same problem. Try using only codecs PCMU and PCMA with the Fanvil phones. I had much better success that way than with G711 and G729.

Have you enabled "PBX Delivers Audio" ?

Hi Eddv123, I plan to replace 2 phones today for testing. The problem is i have deployed 170 Fanvils, so i was hoping i could solve the issue. i will update you with the results.

Hi Kieferschild, for deployments without and SBC, i have and with deployments with an SBC i have disabled "PBX Delivers Audio".

Sure, I understand the situation however just from a technical perspective it would be a good test if only for the process of elimination.

What was the reason to move this site to Fanvil ? cost I would assume ?

All my setups are Fanvil and they're not having issues and i've got them in STUN and SBC. Local and remote. Smaller deployment per site mind.

@Intech Mackay did you hear it for yourself or are these just reports from users? Don't rely on the user reports alone.

I've tested a number of Fanvils and I cannot really say that they are muffled. Although I agree that "quality" is quite a subjective and relative term and is more prevalent when directly comparing 2 devices side by side, I'm not sure the description from the users is accurate

I think it may be worth investigating it further:
- Checking codecs and audio quality via captures, not via settings alone - verification is key
- Checking if this affects external calls only or if it also affects internal calls
- Checking whether it's a matter of transcoding rather than a device issue
