Multiple locations via cloud hosting

Hi guys,

for one of our customers were trying to implement 3CX. It is a school organization with about 40 locations. Our wish is to host them all via the same cloud server (to conserve costst). Is it possible to provision phones on multiple locations using the cloud server?
Does that need any special IP configuration or does it work right off the bat?

Yes, you will need an SBC (or several) at each site depending on how many phones you will need and the redundancy you want. Use supported IP phones and follow the guides and it'll be smooth sailing.

Is it only necessary when we want to provision devices? Or are we not able to make any calls without an SBC?

Hey @YWiegman,

As @kieferschild mentioned, we recommend using the 3CX SBC for provisioning IP Phones on remote sites. As per our training material for remote extensions, you can also configure IP Phones using STUN/Direct SIP which does not require an SBC but does require that you implement the right firewall/network configuration on each remote site.

Phones connected through the SBC need the SBC running. Note you can configure two for failover/HA. Local call audio then goes through the SBC not to the 3CX server. The large plus is that to provision a new phone it just needs to be plugged in and it will show up in 3CX.
