Hey there,

We have a 3CX 15.5 instance that has expired maintenance and our perpetual license cannot be renewed.

We have ordered a new perpetual license I need to apply this to the current server. From what i have read on this forum so far I will need to do the following:
  1. backup of the current config, unchecking the option to backup FQDN and license
  2. uninstall the 3CX server.
  3. Download the latest 15.5 installer
  4. install 3CX and run through the setup wizard, apply the FQDN and license key.
  5. restore the config from the backup of the previous installation.
I refer to this thread for my info https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/how-activate-my-license.53901/

Are these instructions accurate for a system that has already been running 3CX Phone System Professional Edition 15.5.5?

We also use Cisco 7945 phones in our environment and pumpkin TFTP pushes out the config to these phones from the provisioning folder. I don't think i need to worry about the TFTP server once the config from 3CX has been restored? Should i be backing up the provisioning folder before the uninstall?

Look forward to hearing from you and thanks in advanced.

Matt..

since 15.5.5 we have replace license function. So the whole 5 steps have been cleaned.
Update to Update 5 and in Settings --> License Key hit the Replace Button.

Note: The new key must be "virgin" (no FQDN mapped to it and so on). Also Replace only works from Free to Commercial and Commercial to Commercial keys. In your case the second rule applies.

Hey Stefan, thanks for the fast reply!!!

I don't have a replace key button.

I can go to settings | License | Edit but the license key is greyed out and there is no replace option.

Any thoughts?

I think you are not on the latest service pack or you have cached information in your browser...

Hey Stefan,

This is what we are on.

Is there anyway to update the service pack with no maintenance? Or it looks like I have to do the reinstall?

Thanks for all of your help.

Matt

oh, that is very old 15.5, your initial post stated 15.5.5.

You have to take the long way. and one point is missing, as I assume you like to keep the FQDN.
  1. backup of the current config, unchecking the option to backup FQDN and license
  2. uninstall the 3CX server.
  3. Download the latest 15.5 installer
  4. Unbind FQDN from Current License Key via customer portal
  5. install 3CX and run through the setup wizard, apply the FQDN and license key.
  6. restore the config from the backup of the previous installation.

Stefan can he trade in his expired perpetual to the free 1 year annual and then update 3CX service packs and use replace?

yes, trade in is an option but this implies that the key will be converted from perpetual to an annual key. If this okey, then MA will be enabled again on the key and upgrades can be made and then switched.

Ok I am confused with the information being presented to me.

Under License | Settings I can see Product Version Number is 15.5.5

However, on the Dashboard I have

Anways.

I have purchased a new perpetual license which i already have the key for. I am a little confused with CentrexJ's post mentioning trade-in. Are you suggesting to trade-in my expired perpetual? I don't want to have to purchase any additional licensing, but i am looking for the best solution.

I am thinking my original post with StefanW's additional step is the only way forward for me?

We also have multiple sites, under "my license keys" in the partner portal our office system does not appear along with three of our other sites. Weird. I can only see one site that will allow be to release the FQDN.

Thanks in advance again peeps. Very helpful.

Go to https://www.3cx.com/phone-system/download-phone-system/ and choose "trade in perpetual key to annual" you can upgrade the expired perpetual key to a 1 year annual.

Then on your 3cx management console you can refresh the license key information and it will see 1 year expiry. Then you can install the latest service packs to your installation. The services packs have to install one at a time, up to v15.5 SP5.

Once up to date you can go back to the license on your 3cx management console and choose "replace license key" and put in your new perpetual key and like magic you are up to date with your new key and no backup, uninstall, release fqdn, re-install, and most importantly almost no downtime of the pbx.

Thanks for the info and clarification CentrexJ.

Appreciate the time you have taken to give me the advice!

I will let you know how it all goes.

Just to confirm,

I am now on the latest build after trading in my expired perpetual license for an annual using the customer portal. This gave me 1 year maintenance straight away.

The change of license key was picked up in system management console after a short delay.

I am not patched up to the latest build. I will let the annual maintenance license expire before applying the new one i purchased.

Thanks to everyone for your help. Excellent community.

Matt
