Noises in handset when 2nd call comes in

When I am on a call with an outside caller, if another external call comes in to our PBX, my phone gives a couple very irritating squeals and tones, for about one second, through the handset speaker, to the point where I can hardly hear the person I'm talking to, and sometimes the tone/beep completely blocks out the caller's voice and I need to ask them to repeat.

Do you have suggestions for how to troubleshoot this?

I'm assuming that this is a feature that has been enabled on the particular set.

You failed to mention what type (make/model/firmware release) it is, and if others in the office, using the same model set, are also experiencing this issue.
