We are looking to migrate from On-prem to Hosted in the next 5-6 months. Looking for confirmation on a few items I am not clear on. We have 3 offices, main with maybe 70-80 phones and then two small offices with 10-12 phones each. Current setup: 3CX installed on a local server in main office and we have a small Mini PCs in the two other offices with SBC installed. Most phones are T42S with main phone in each office being T48S.

Questions I am not clear on before migrating to hosted:
  • Can I buy an SBC enabled phone for the two smaller offices to replace mini PC in each to run those offices once migrated?
  • Does main office need an SBC, if so, would (3) T54W's be able to handle that with SBC integrated or do we need a server/PC with SBC setup?
    • Desk phones are not used very often. I would guess no more than 3-4 on phone at a time.
Thank you in Advance!

Assuming phones are IP Phones (and not apps)

1) Yes - you can even do this now. The limit per SBC phone is 10, but you said 10-12
2) Yes, needs a SBC. No, 3x T54W's won't cover 70-80 phones - you would need 7-8. Better idea - re-use your mini PCs (in a HA SBC setup) or the old 3CX server to run the SBC (officially rated for 100 phones)

Thanks for the info! Much appreciated.

When the "limit" is 10...is that 10 in USE or it will it possibly allow a potential, for example, 12-14 phones, and still work if not in use?

It's not a hard technical enforcement, you can add more. Your results on how well it works will vary based on load - how many calls in use, how many BLFs, etc.
