From what I have read in the forums and learned via research, as follows, please add any corrections needed.
1. Create a new cloud instance in our account.
2. In that cloud instance: create the storage location.
3. Create a backup, not to exceed 3GB of our on premise 3CX system.
4. Load that backup into the storage location created in the cloud instance.
5. Log into the cloud system and restore the backup from the storage location.

Question: What settings in the on premise should I change/remove pre-backup?

Thank you in advance for your time and energy!

I think you can tidy up a step if you're keeping the same FQDN. just backup from your onsite system and restore the backup during install of the new cloud machine. it's an option upon creation to just restore a file.

My bad, I forgot to mention that the on premise has a custom FQDN and I will need to change that to the one provided by 3CX.Should I backup my on premise with the 3CX provided FQDN?

See if this thread helps

All devices will need to be reprovisioned.

i'm actively taking all our older customers off the custom FQDN (these are all like pre-2019) and I'm almost done with it. (Why? because godaddy SSL certs are going to eventually renew every 45 days and I don't feel like changing these manually anymore when 3cx certs renew automatically for you).

what i've been doing is backup without license key and FQDN, move backup to a supported cloud location that can be reconfigured on the new system (so you can just grab the backup file without waiting for a transfer), shut down old, release FQDN, create new and give it the same extension length as the old system, log in with that initial system owner account and link back to the same supported cloud backup location, restore backup, reset/reprovision phones, re-link any static trunks if not running registration trunks, and verify call flow... DONE!

that sounds like a lot of steps but small customer systems are moving in 15-20 minutes, and the large ones are moving in about 30-45 minutes.

For the networks we don't control routers on, i've been getting their IT folks to drop in a DHCP option 66 command on them and then just having a customer point of contact reset the phones one at a time. goes pretty quick with option 66!
