OVH VPS Debian 9 / 3CX V16 upgrade questions

Hey gang,

I'm an ex-3CX partner who hasn't been active for a few years, but still have a handful of customers that I'm supporting and need some guidance. I've been looking through the forum for the same setup as me, but can't find anything...

All of these customers are in the same boat and the details are as follows:

Installed several years ago (don't remember what 3CX version to start) on OVH VPS's (not public cloud) on either Debian 8 or 9 (if 8, was later upgraded to 9) using the Linux command line method:

and are all currently running 3CX V16.

Before I try upgrading first Linux to V10 and then 3CX to V18, I need to know what the steps are for this scenario, as from what I've been reading, the command line method of installing 3CX now won't work. I also see in the 3CX Admin portal under Updates, that there is an update button that says it will upgrade both Linux to V10 and 3CX to V18. Not being up to date with the latest, I'm wondering if that will work if I do it, but am worried that if I try and it fails, because I can't re-install Debian and 3CX from command line, I'll be screwed.

So any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I'm assuming that if we do nothing, come 11/2022, the systems will be rendered useless?

1. You should be able to just upgrade from the console as OVH is a supported provider and even the command line install worked for us.

2. If you need some reassurance, the upgrade will revert the system back to v16 if the upgrade fails and you will get a log by email at the admin email address.

3. If you need to redeploy, OVH is a supported provider in PBXExpress (Deployment Wizard) which makes it easy to reinstall.

4. As of now, v16 will get a Update 8a somewhere before Feb 1st 2022 to keep it working. Older versions will not work anymore past Nov 2022. V18 of course will work perfectly.

The script they built to do the upgrade have a lot of checks before starting the update itself. In most cases, yes it just stays on Debian 9 and sends you a log by email. The upgrade can take about 20-25min on a decent VM and around 1h on a Raspberry Pi.

According to this, only the Public Cloud is supported. However, there is DigitalOcean that is supported now so you may want to look at this.
