I am looking at the list of compatible phones but the Avaya 6408D+ is not in the list.

What sets phones apart to make compatibility list or not?

Thanks

In most cases, "compatible" means that a set has been tested and a template developed, to allow for auto configuration. Many users do not have the technical know-how, nor the time, to manually configure, or develop their own template. While most SIP compatible sets will work with 3CX, for most (basic?) features, some things may not work as expected.

If there is enough demand for particular sets, then there is a good chance, that after testing, they may be added especially if other models from the same supplier, are included.

As long as the phone is SIP 2.0 compliant, then it should work with 3CX. Some makes and models are proprietary whereas others can be modified to be SIP compliant. Not all phones are created equal as some will have features that cover a number of different platforms who have unique features and manufacturers may implement features differently or even interpret the standards somewhat differently.

When 3CX states compatibility it means that they have tested the phone (with the stated firmware) and have determined that the phone will work with the feature set the PBX software provides. Other phones may work very well, but 3CX is not in a position to test every make and model with all their respective firmware releases. So, as a result, should you elect to use a phone that is not on their list and run into a problem.... you may very well be on your own to solve whatever the problem is. of course, there is always the possibility that someone on the forum may be able to assist, but its a risk.
