I've been doing some searching and reading on restricted long distance calling and I seem to be missing a few pieces. We're running V18 – latest FYI.
I believe there are two ways of doing this:
1 - create an outbound rule with includes a prefix (secret pin) and when it matches dialing for a particular digit length, it will allow the call to go out, and in tandem it will block anyone who does not have 'the code'. Easy to manage on a global level but does not provide unique pins and you need to notify everyone that has the master pin when it is updated.
2 - Pin Protect - I see that you go into the user/options and enable this, but I'm trying to figure out where to disable the dialing outbound if a user doesn't use/have the pin. Do we also check disable external calls for the user and then if needed they use their VM pin? Do we also add these users to a group which is in turn assigned a outbound rule? Trying to understand the granularity and architecture of using the PIN.
User dials 7777, waits for the pin, then authorizes you to dial the number.
Thanks,
Ken
