Good Day,

1) This 3CX article for setting up QoS with GPO:

https://www.3cx.com/blog/voip-howto/qos-windows/

Does not specify any ports or IP's. When I use wireshark (after applying this policy to my workstation) I see all traffic with "Class Selector 7" DSCP, regardless of where it's going. So SQL, SMB calls, everything is prioritized. Instead of speeding up one car on the highway, all traffic is sped up the same amount...

Shouldn't this policy apply only to the ports used by 3CX Calls and to and from the 3CX server IP?

2) How do I get the 3CX server to use the same DSCP setting?

1. 3CX recommendation is for 3CX to be running all by itself.
2. You do what you just did, but on the 3CX box.
3. Undo that on your box.

Hi cobaltit,

I know what ports are used for 3CX. I meant what port traffic needs to be prioritized by QoS to enable good quality calls. 5015 shouldn't need to be, as one example.

However, your answer to do it just on the 3CX server makes perfect sense, thanks. In context with default settings, all traffic from the 3CX server is given priority regardless of port or IP destination.

@Shadragon So you if you know 5015 for example shouldn't be, then I would assume you know what ports should be right? I mean 5015 is the install web portal. I don't think anyone cares about prioritizing that. What traffic coming from 3CX is important to you?

But yes 3CX recommendation is the lazy way but it works for pretty much all cases. Windows Updates or Package updates also get prioritized along with all other traffic but that really shouldn't be an issue.
