If you had to run sudo for the previous commands then yes

Done. I'll see how tonight's update goes and report back!

Do the following felix, as what you showed me does not help us so much :)

Run the following:
1) nano /etc/apt/sources.list.d/saltstack.list
2) Uncomment the first line by adding in the beginning # example;
#deb http://archive.repo.saltstack.com/apt/debian/9/amd64/...
3) Save the file
4) Call apt-get update
5) If all goes well update via management console and let me know.

Is this necessary to do for all future update ? Can we just wait few days and be able to update without all this step ?
I think, this is very problematic.

I'm running debian on prem and I was able to update without any issues.

I tried updating one, and had to run the script. It had been installed from 3CX's ISO last summer. Haven't tried others yet. The issue isn't new: https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/3cx-update-failed-debian-new-16-0-update-5-rollup.74237/. I would think once the repo config is fixed it won't recur (unless something else is taken offline), but until then if updates can't be installed then I don't see that 3CX is able to do anything about it.

Is what i'm thinking, but still i don't have access to old "on premise" installations we have, and will make the update impossible to do... And i can't imagine people with more than 100 instances with the problem.

Hi Liam,

I might be able to help you with this, since these are clearly Debian servers.
You can run the following command and afterwards you should be able to update normally again.

Bash:
wget -O - https://downloads.3cx.com/downloads/misc/debianpatches/9/16/0/5/20200619-os-update.sh | bash
The problem is related in this script and in the instance manager. The repo installed (Saltstack) has moved in anoter url. The only solution is modify the saltstack sources file and insert the new url. There is another thread with the new url
https://www.3cx.com/community/threads/update-failing-saltstack-issue.74217

EDIT: the script does not update the sources url and break the Istance Manager connection. For all my istance I must run the script, modifythe sources file, update and deactivate and reactivate the instance manager.

If I log in to 3CX's portal and click Instances it just spins the loading image and the page doesn't load, is that what you saw?

I think it's the fix when you try to install the instance manager and you get the error code 255.

No, I saw all my instance offline I waited several hours and then I disabled and enabled instance manager and now everything back ok

Weird, but if it's working now, nice.

Our Instances page loads now, no changes on our end.

Hello @Liam Pool ,

Those errors are related to the Operating System and are not connected with the PBX Update.

Please check with your provider.

I am running a google cloud version of 3CX PBX and am also getting the same error with this update package....

This is NOT related to the server.... this is related to the update itself...

Please fix the package update

Thanks.

Can confirm. Google gives you

E: The repository 'http://repo.saltstack.com/apt/debian/9/amd64/archive/2019.2.0 stretch Release' does no longer have a Release file.
N: Updating from such a repository can't be done securely, and is therefore disabled by default.
N: See apt-secure(8) manpage for repository creation and user configuration details.

Is there a way around this? We had a phantom call while we were sitting here this weekend that doesn't show up in the call log and the first thing tech is going to ask is if we're running the latest update.

@ITLAVO @SethTalley - as previously mentioned in this thread, you will have to SSH into your instance, elevate (i.e by running sudo su ) and then run the following command:

Bash:
wget -O - https://downloads.3cx.com/downloads/misc/debianpatches/9/16/0/5/20200619-os-update.sh | bash

This command applies the fix.

Does the fix of repository is going to be applicated for next installation of 3CX Servers ? Do you need to do this for each new install we do ?

Hi @MidiTélécom

From update 6 onwards - this should not affect you at all.

For update 5 - you need to run the command only in case you want to use the Instance Manager otherwise you remain unaffected and do not need run the command at all.

Thanks guys. I am most decidedly not an IT guy; my shell adventures are largely dictated by the maxim "man who hack at root soon kill tree." It was the sudo su I hadn't added. Four updates and hotfixes later and I'm up to date.
