Provisioning a phone which has a static IP address

Hi,
I have Yealink T27G and T46G phones. Factory default of the phone sets the phone to DHCP. Phone(s) are plugged into my LAN. They get assigned an IP address by DHCP (no reservation at this point) and show up in 3CX v16 Phones list with DHCP assigned address. From Phones list, I browse to the phone GUI and set the phone with a static IP and save settings. After rebooting the phone, it now shows up in 3CX Phone list with static IP address. I also reserve the IP address to the MAC address in the DHCP server. So far, so good.

My question is,
Does the phone's static IP setting get changed back to DHCP when the phone is re-provisioned?

Provisioning will not change the IP address

Have to ask why you are setting the IP via the gui and not using dhcp reservation if your setup requires a fixed ip

That is a good question. I mentioned Yealink phones because I expect more people would be familiar with how they are provisioned by 3CX. The actual device in question is a SNOM PA1 horn adapter. It factory defaults to DHCP and is provisioned by 3CX. I want to give it a static IP but I am concerned that re-provisioning the device (i.e. after new firmware comes out) will change it back to DHCP.

So same question, does re-provisioning a device set static back to DHCP?

It's probably going to take less time setting a static IP, then provisioning and checking to see if it reverted to DHCP as it will awaiting a definitive answer. And what will be the outcome one way or the other, it either changes back, or it doesn't. It's not going to break the SNOM , and it's not the end of the world even if it doesn't retain the settings..

No but if you manage wide lan with ranges of IPs to use for each kind of devices it can be important the IP adress stay the same during device life .

No argument here, I much prefer my LAN devices to all have static IP's. Just saying that to wait to find out if someone else has tested, to see if the settings revert to DHCP, after a re-provision on the SNOM, will probably take longer than testing yourself.

After reading your answer, I see now that I should have not asked a question on something I could have tried. I apologize for wasting our time on this subject.

In answer to your original question, it really depends on the phone manufacturer.

Some brands like Yealink, do not require you to provision the network so we leave that alone. It will keep whatever was set by default, or whatever was set by you via the GUI.

Other brands like Fanvil do require you to provision the network settings so those will be overwritten with the default every night.

Hint: The best way to know is to build your provisioning link and download the config file and see what is defined in the network setup section so that you know how that specific model will behave.
