Following 3CX"s provisioning process I am attempting to provision a Yealink W52P DECT Phone for use with my system (information below).

I have installed the 25.81.0.30 firmware for the base. Every time I try to install the handset firmware using the OTA method the handset tells me “RPS Failed”.

I have been going back and forth with Yealink to see if they can help. The last response I received said “The process I was using was correct, but the problem is not related to the factory reset, It related to this base station doesn't get authorized by server.”

Any ideas as to how to make this phone work with my system?

Thanks,
Mike

3CX Version: Free
Is the 3CX Server Hosted and where? Hosted by 3CX
IP Phone Make/Model/Firmware version: Yealink T53W version 96.86.0.76
Provisioning Method: Followed steps online. https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/yealink-t5-series/
Trunk Provider or VoIP Gateway Make/Model: Flowroute
Has the Firewall Checker passed: NO
Are custom Phone Templates being used: NO

You have mentioned a Yealink W52P DECT but below description you have a Yealink T53W, which device has the issue?
Also if this is related with the Dect, what is the model of the Base?

Thank you for responding! I guess my info at the bottom of my original post does not make sense. I have updated it below.

I have the W52P DECT Phone. The W52P is the one I am having issues with. I am able to update the base firmware but not the handset. When I try to upgrade the handset I get "RPS Failed" on the handset screen. I have been speaking with Yealink and have pasted our conversation below if that helps. Also, I do not see any firmware on the Yealink website that says that it is for the handset specifically.

Hi Alain,

Thank you for your help!

Can you please let me know where I would implement this parameter?

Basically, where do I need to navigate to once I am base station website and how do I do it once I am there?

Thanks again,
Mike

  • Add Attachment "template config file.jpg"
HI Alain,

Thank you for providing the attached file!

I imported the template.cfg file using the Import CFG Configuration File option. Please see attachment.

I installed the latest firmware found on your website (25.81.0.160). Which I obtained from Yealink's website https://support.yealink.com/en/portal/docList?archiveType=software&productCode=9a7f15b8a9e10ded

I upgraded the base and that worked fine. Then I tried to upgrade the handset and received an "RPS Failed" message on the handset.

Please let me know what I need to do to make this work or if I did something wrong.

Thanks again for your help!

Mike

Hi Mike

May I know how many handsets have been affected by the "RPS failed" issue?

Since W52P is a very old product right now, Some of issues may caused by the hardware.

I have one handset. I know it old but it was still working when I received it. It was still able to make calls for the previous owner.

Did I input the configuration file in the right place?

Thanks again for you help!

Wouldn't the "RPS Failed" error happen because it was registered to someone else?

If so, wouldn't we need to remove the previous owner so I can use the phone.

That is what was done with another phone I have (Yealink T53w).

Thanks again for your help!

Hi Sir

I have removed the MAC address from our RPS server. Please try it again and give us feedback.

Hi Alain,

Thank you for removing the MAC address!

I installed “Base for W52P&W56P-25.81.0.60.rom” on the base. I downloaded the firmware from https://support.yealink.com/en/portal/docList?archiveType=software&productCode=9a7f15b8a9e10ded

The firmware on the handset is 26.73.0.24.

I tried to upgrade the firmware on the handset using “Base for W52P&W56P-25.81.0.60.rom” and it still gives me the same "RPS Failed" error.

I have factory reset both the base and the handset and went through the process several times and I still get the same error.

The phone worked for the previous owner and actually worked when I plugged it in to my network. I was able to make calls with it but it was registered to their number so I factory reset the phone.

Can you answer the following questions?

1) Am I installing the correct firmware version?

2) 3CX says that I need to use 25.81.0.30 firmware. Can I use the 25.81.0.60 or the 25.81.0.160?

3) Is the same firmware used on the Handset and the Base?

4) Does each version of the firmware contain all the information of the previous versions?

5) To ask it another way. Do I need to install older versions of the firmware and then progress to the more recent versions to get all the upgrades?

6) I am following the process that 3CX recommends to manually reset, upgrade and provision the phone. Can you tell me if the process is accurate? https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/yealink-dect-w52p/#h.7dibl1nchwtg

Thank you again for all of your help!

Mike

Hi Sir

Here are the answers for your questions:

1) Am I installing the correct firmware version?

->The version is correct but it's very old, Need to update it to the latest firmware version, You can download the firmware version via this link:https://support.yealink.com/en/portal/docList?archiveType=software&productCode=9a7f15b8a9e10ded

2) 3CX says that I need to use 25.81.0.30 firmware. Can I use the 25.81.0.60 or the 25.81.0.160?

->I recommend you use the 25.81.0.30, Beacuase this version is certificated by 3CX which means some of function are supported by 3CX on this version.

3) Is the same firmware used on the Handset and the Base?

-> Handset and Base use the different firmware versions.

4) Does each version of the firmware contain all the information of the previous versions?

-> No, Firmware version change only contain the configuration and parameter, We don;t release the changelog on the Rom download file.

5) To ask it another way. Do I need to install older versions of the firmware and then progress to the more recent versions to get all the upgrades?

->We recommend you use the latest firmware version to avoid some exist bugs.

6) I am following the process that 3CX recommends to manually reset, upgrade and provision the phone. Can you tell me if the process is accurate? https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/yealink-dect-w52p/#h.7dibl1nchwtg

-> The way is correct, But the problem is not related to the factory reset, It related to this base station doesn't get authorized by server.

Alain

Just to clarify as mentioned the supported firmware is the one that is listed in the guideline and web site.
Also the handsets are updated from the base and this is not something that is sent from 3CX. To elaborate, 3CX will provision and register the Base only, all other handset connections are between the base and the handset.
Now, also do you have an SBC? What steps do you follow to provision the base? Actually the base is successfully provisioned and registered?

Thanks again for your help!

I followed the steps laid out in the provisioning link you provided. Currently the base firmware version is 25.81.0.30 I did not know until earlier today that the handset was W52H. I see that there is firmware for it W52H for W60P-26.81.0.40

I downloaded the handset firmware from the link you provided and upgraded it using the base's website and it actually updated the handset to 26.81.0.40 but when it was done the handset gave me an error saying "Provision Failed".

My SBC is the Yealink T53W.

I have followed the procedure from your link. Everything listed below I did.

Step 1: Factory reset the Yealink Dect system

If the device has residual settings of a previous configuration the device has to be reset to factory defaults.

Reset Yealink W52P and W56P base station to factory default

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Hold down the “Connect” button located on the base of the device.
  3. Power on the device while keeping the “Connect” button pressed.
  4. Wait until all the 3 LED lights are statically ON.
  5. Restart it, and your Base Station will be successfully reset.

Reset Yealink handset to factory defaults: W52H, W53H, W56H, W73H

  1. Press the “OK” key
  2. Navigate to “Settings”“System Settings”“Handset Rest”“OK”. When the message “Reset handset to default” appears press “Yes.

Step 2: Upgrade to the Required firmware

Ensure that your DECT device and handsets are running on the required firmware. This is required prior to provisioning the phone.

Upgrade DECT base firmware version
In order to check the firmware of your Yealink DECT system:
  1. Point your web browser to your device’s IP address. Note: You can find this by pressing “OK” on the headset and selecting the “Status > Base”
  2. Login to your account (default user/password: admin/admin).
  3. Navigate to “Status → Status → Firmware Version.” This number is your device’s running firmware.
  4. Your Yealink device needs to be on the last required firmware 25.81.0.30. Download the Firmware image .zip file.
  5. Navigate to “Settings → Upgrade → Select and Upgrade Base Firmware”
  6. Click “Choose File” choose the firmware image file saved previously, and press “Upgrade.”

Upgrade handset firmware

  • W56H Handset (OTA)
  • Access the official Yealink website and then click Software
  • Find the required firmware file, download it and save on your PC.
  • Point your web browser to your phone’s IP address.
  • Navigate to “Settings → Upgrade → Select and Upgrade Handset Firmware”
  • Click “Choose File” choose the firmware image file saved previously, and press “Upgrade.”
  • As soon as firmware is uploaded to the W56H handset, automatic upgrade will begin.

Step 3: Setup the Yealink W52/W56 DECT base station in 3CX

  1. Go to “Admin > Voice and Chat”.
  2. Click on “+Add Dect”.
  3. If your installation is on-premise, you will also need to choose where the base station is located.
  4. Select in office if the base station is on the same network as the PBX.
  5. If your instance is in the cloud or out of the office, select a router phone or SBC behind which it will work. Important: The “Router Phone” or SBC must be up and running.
  6. Now, select your model and enter the device’s MAC address.
  7. Click “Next”.
  8. Now Assign users to your Yealink DECT base station.
When I click on Add DECT Button this is what I see.

Configure Your DECT Base Station Screenshot 1.jpg

When I open the DECT Base Station Model Menu this is what I see.
I do not see the option to choose the W52P Base Station.
What do I choose or what do I do? Or, what did I do wrong?

Sorry i missed the information of 3CX Hosted.
This device is an EOL device and unfortunately cannot be used in the 3CX Hosted but only to an on-premise or self-hosted installations:

Thank you for the information. I noticed that the information says the phone can be manually configured. Is this true with a 3CX hosted account? If so how would I do that?

I'm afraid this is not an option as the template is not available in the 3CX Hosted.

Thank you for letting me know and thankyou for all of your help!

You are welcome ;)
