Question about Ring Groups

Can the ring group number be a different number of digits than the extensions? I am currently running asterisk and my extensions are 4 digit but my ring groups are 3 digit. This allows my users to dial 3 digits and I can setup custom actions. Can 3cx do the same thing, or does the ring group have to have the same number is digits as my extensions?
