Do any of you guys just buy up the biggest 3cx license you can, put it on a dedicated cloud server, and slice it up among a bunch of smaller clients? IE buy a 64 seat license, and sell it to a bunch of clients that really only need 4 seats but the SIP provider charges per minute so they have unlimited channels (ie siptrunk.com) or even more in depth the sip provider bills you per minute and you in turn bill the client some price.

Does anyone do this?

Did you just call me fat?o_O

We personally don't do what you describe. There used to be a multi-tenant product that would work similarly to what you mention, but since 3CX isn't designed to be multi-tenant it's not worth the hassle trying to make it behave that way.

No, be a ball ache to manage and they wont be able to use the software or have phones with displays because they'll see each other's public contacts etc.

As above , 3CX is not designed for multi-tenant , too many hurdles to overcome to make it work

I agree with all the above. Shared on-hold music, shared company directory, ability to call people not in my company, shared operator extension, etc. the list of concerns is fairly long.

You would also not be able to prevent each user from making use of only 4 licences. While a "choke" can be set on a trunk group for one user, if that same trunk group served many, then If one was constantly forwarding calls, or making use of the Ring my Mobile feature (amongst other things), they could easily use double their "share" and cause calls to eventually fail for others.

We definitely don't do that. It's not even economical. 8 individual 8SCPRO licenses would cost a total of $2120 annually and a single 64SCPRO system is $2395 annually.

I have split some large sites up in this manner, for example, one client has 8SCPro at 2 locations and 24SCEnt at their home office. Then all 3 systems are bridged. This is better for the client in that only 1 location needed enterprise licensing so they didn't need to go to a 48SC Ent license to get enough call paths for all 3 locations. All 3 locations can then have their own schedule for office hours, phonebook, and their own hold music customization, as others mentioned.
