quick noob question about 3cx and rollover lines. Are rollover lines needed anymore with 3cx hosted?

Hey, I may not be in the right category here, I apologize. I am in the process of moving our organization from traditional analog phones to hosted 3cx pro. I've read/heard in a roundabout way that voip doesn't need rollover lines but can handle unlimited calls on one number. Is this true for 3cx? Spectrum outright says it here on the first drop down answer: https://www.spectrumvoip.com/features/unlimited-rollover-lines/ but I wanted reassurance to know if this is true on 3cx. I wondered if it's true that if multiple people tried to call the main number at one time, the main number would not ring "busy" and also not use a seperate (rollover) number but just route the extra callers to available receptionists.
Our old (current) phone system is setup with one main line with two seperate rollover lines if the main is busy. If we could get rid of the rollover lines and just port the one main line, that would be handy and save us money but I don't want to lose those rollover lines if we still need them. Thanks.

This is going to be dependent on the SIP provider. 3CX itself can handle multiple calls to a single number, as long as your provider can.

typically providers sell by channels or minutes. For channel based, if all channels are in use, the call wouldn't come into 3CX even.

Okay good to know. Thank you!

The distinction is that the number is typically not tied to a line anymore. So a SIP trunk can have one number and 50 calls allowed, or 50 numbers and one call allowed at a time. Most companies drop the extra numbers unless customers sometimes call in on them. They can however be useful as DID for certain functions or conference bridge, or other call handling.
