Receive or forward SMS?

I did a search and didn't see anything so sorry if this is covered....

Is there a way to get a SMS to my 3CX phone - or phones? I have a generic wifi handheld and a grandstream GPX 1630. Can I either get SMS's on that phone, or forward SMS's sent to my DID to my cell phone? Thanks. Not sure what other information is needed. I use flowroute as my provider if that makes a difference.

How exactly do you expect either device to display said SMS? There is no native SMS support in either device so the short answer is no. In theory, you could probably use an available API to get messages to display on the 3CX soft phone at least. I believe @voiptoys has mentioned they either have, or could do some custom development along those lines. I think you are SOL on the Grandstream, although possibly some hack to display XML might work but not sure it's worth the effort for such a budget phone. SMS forwarding to your cell phone should be a bit easier and is probably something Flowroute can do natively.

Thanks for the reply.. I thought the grandstream supported SMS but maybe not. The WiFi SIP (Cordless) I have has a SMS option in it. I'm not sure how to enable it in 3CX (Is that possible?) But obviously flowroute would need to support it too. I'll continue to look at Flowroute SMS forwarding, but my google fu is failing me..

Well 3CX does zero with 3CX so you are looking for either Flowroute directly to Grandstream or Flowroute to some sort of API/webhook and then custom development work.

I assume you mean 3CX does nothing with SMS? Darn. I would have assumed I'd have to have flowroute pass the SMS to 3CX and then 3CX somehow pass the SMS to an extension. Ok, thanks, I'll look into it on the flowroute end. Any ideas if there's any plans to integrate SMS / MMS into 3CX in the future?

The problem is there is no standard per se for SMS/MMS. There's no SMS/MMS 'protocol' like SIP. Everything is done via API and every provider is different. 3CX is looking into it but I wouldn't hold your breath.

If you have flowroute and want SMS, look at flowsms.co
It's clunky, but functional. We have about 15 numbers active with them, we use it for shared 2FA or just regular sms and mms.

It's also totally outside of 3CX - so nothing to do in 3CX to make it work, nor any 3CX tools or apps for it.

I've heard v2 is coming for the past 6 months that is much sleeker, etc - I'm still waiting.

Price is 6.99 per number per month (I know it's kinda hidden, sparing you the time)

Thanks all for the suggestions.. This will basically be a one off so not worth investing money into or adding numbers.. Basically I signed up for an account a while back apparently using my home (3CX) number as my 'cell' number. And now my account got locked, and the only way to unlock it is to send a SMS to the cell phone - which of course isn't a cell phone. Been trying to work with customer service to find another way, but was hoping to simply be able to flip a switch or just easily get a text message with what I have now but looks like that's not an option Thanks all though. Maybe sometime down the road!

AFAIK, Flowroute does not offer an SMS client, just API options. (It is possible to forward calls to a any number. Would be nice if that included SMS but I doubt it.) There are some open-source projects for Flowroute SMS--I've got this one set up for receive-only--but it requires setting up a Docker container on Azure. Good to know about FlowSMS.
