Remote Employee - phone options

Hoping for a little guidance. We are hiring a remote employee and need to know our options for phone at their home. Our current vendor says that the employee can just use the app on their cell phone but I'd like them to have an actual desk phone. I'm wondering if there is an option where the remote employee could use the webclient along with a headset plugged into their computer? Or a desktop phone plugged into their computer? I have no idea if this is possible. Just looking for guidance and wondering what other people do.

Any of the supported phones will work. You can also use a headset with the Windows or Mac client. There is also a web client but it's in beta right now.

Excuse my simple questions... what type of headset works? Does it just plug into the USB on the laptop of the remote worker? If we use a desktop phone, does that plug into the laptop?

If you use the softphone then you would want a USB headset to plug into the computer.
If you go with a deskphone, it needs to connect to your remote network, either by ethernet wire or WiFi if it is an IP phone that supports wifi. 3CX supports remote phones with two different options - STUN or SBC.

For setup of the remote deskphones (and if this is a single user) then direct STUN should be fine, you can also use the SBC if you want added security and encryption.

The advantage of using the App remotely (without deskphone) is that the tunnel is built in without any additional hardware required.

FYI as far as headsets go also, I have used a bluetooth plantronics voyager with my Yealink and BT40 (bluetooth adapter which is required) and it works very well..

You can use either a IP phone or the 3CX client depending on your requirements. The 3CX client will require the use of a headset and the IP phone will need internet access to connect to the phone system.
