Hi,

How do I setup a remote extension with Startup pro? Is STUN still the way to go? Assuming it's not supported but should still work for one phone on a remote network?

Stun is not supported.

Install a SBC server or purchase a phone that has the sbc inbuild into it

https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/ - you will need a router phone

Hello,

SBC is mandatory so either use a dedicated SBC or a Router phone.

STUN will not be available on StartUP.

PS: It is possible on Dedicated Hosted by 3CX but we do not support it.

Had a feeling that would be the case. Not had great experience up to now with IP phone with SBC. X4Uv2 hasn't proved to be very stable. Any recommenadtions on others? Economical recommendations.

We would like to hear some feedback on what type of issues you faced with it.

The client has had issues with the router phone requiring a restart and all other phones as a result. It's stopped happening as much of late but post instll it was every other day everything needed a restart. I highlighted this to Support at the time. I was advised to do the following: "You may do a port mirorring on the switch where the phone is located and run tshark."

Afraid I didn't know where to start with that and was told when I asked for instructions they were unable to provide them.

Hi Scott,

That specific issue has been observed when the phone loses internet for more than a few minutes.

Fanvil is aware of it and has produced new firmware which addresses this exact issue (as well as a few other minor things).

We look forward to releasing this firmware soon with Update 8 final, so it should solve this problem you were having.

The specifically happens when the phone is in router mode. Normal mode is not affected.

Thanks John. What router phones would you recommend? Or do you have to be impartial?

It's entirely up to you, they should all work fine (minus the one thing we said will be fixed very soon).

So long as you don't put more than 10 phones behind each router phone, it should be fine.

Purchased X4U v2 for the client. Tried installing from remote location but SIP register failed. I now can't login either from same location as IP address has ben blacklisted!

Is there any way to remove the blacklisted IP address, or do we need to wait until whenever?

@Scott EIT,

Based on your description, the blacklist entry will expire after 24 hours(the IP was blacklisted for too many failed sip authentications)

When the blacklist entry expires, make sure that the IP phone is on the correct firmware (https://www.3cx.com/sip-phones/fanvil-x3-x5/) and you factory reset the IP phone, before trying to provision it again.
If not, the IP address will be blacklisted again for another 24 hours.

If waiting is not an option, you can raise a ticket with our support team in order to remove the blacklist entry for you.

Thanks George. I can wait the 24 hours thanks. Hadn't actually checked the firmware. Does that cause sip authentication to fail?

John might need to be impartial, but I don't.

The Yealink T5x series works well.

Yes 100% - if you don't have the correct firmware the SBC will not activate, and the phone attempts direct SIP which is forbidden, resulting in a temporary ban.

Okay, so I've deleted the phone from the extension, factory reset the phone, upgraded the firmware. Now when I try add the phone back to the extension and restart the phone I'm being prompted on the display for a username and password.

I've noticed everytime the phone is factory reset and then restarted the details of the provisioning server are stored. Is this due to the MAC being registered with 3CX RPS servers? How do I get round this?

In startup, everytime you add a phone it gets added to RPS.
RPS entry exists for 2 weeks and then gets deleted.

Okay, where do I get the user ID and password?

It used to be extension number and voicemail pin.
Now it's supposed to not even ask for it, so I'm unsure. You can try the ext and pin, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it.
